Rebuild cost of a T5

I just had the T5 transmission rebuilt on a 81 CJ-7 that I bought a month ago. The shop said it was in terrible shape, and I tend to believe them given the shifting conditions I'd endured for a few weeks. Nonetheless, I had it rebuilt and they used the following parts (as listed on receipt):

Overhaul Kit
Syncro Kit
Slidder
Nub
Keeper
Case Assembly
Fork 1-2
Fork 3-4
Fork 5th
Small parts kit
Fluid-Lube

They had it for a few days. What would you guys and gals consider a reasonable price for this work? I will withhold my receipt until I hear a few responses...

This looks to be a $500 - $800 rebuild. Looks like they had to replace everything but the shafts and main gears!

They said that somebody had attempted to rebuild at some point and had tried to "wedge" it. Whatever that means. He said there were a number of things missing, I'm not sure all parts were listed here.

Wedging or shimming is a way to make the gears stop whining, especially when they are missing teeth or have worn bearings or bushings.

The parts that were missing were most likely spacing shims that are used for close clearances between the case and the gears.

Wedging can be done many ways, but none of them are long term fixes. This was a common "ruse" of used car dealers in the 70's and eighties.. Kinda like the 'ol sawdust in the tranny fix.

Oh, and the forks were probably missing their boots too. I bet this thing was loud before you had it rebuilt!

cost

well, the cost was $1350 including tax and labor. I was only planning on spending around $1100, but I feel confident that they did do a significant amount of work, and replace a good # of parts.

If I knew anything about transmission repair I would have done it myself..
Don't tell me I got hosed. cause I probably did.

For that price I hope they did everything including R&R and a warranty.
