rear cross member

Hello everyone.

Started my complete rebuild on my 1979 cj7. Got the frame blasted repaired all the bad spots and ready to replace my rear cross member. Mine was pretty well shot! I plan to pull a small trailer and maybe someday and a rear tire carrier.

I need a diagram of a rear cross member to make my new one. Also if anyone has ideas as to what the best way to build one all information will be greatly appreciated.

I would go with lordwrench's Idea if they still have them cause of thickness a little more but looks custom

I did Scottymacks62 suggestion cheaper but didn't look into it myself when I did it Cheaper though

So its a fillip of the coin for you from the both of them

i got a rear cross member made. Now does anyone know if the body mounts on the rear cross member the same distance for a yj as the cj7? As I'm putting the yj tub on my cj7 frame.

Also still need any help with the bracket in front of the gas tank.

If I recall that was the mount that was different. There was a write somewhere about the yj to cj tub conversion. Do some searching and it will come up.

85 CJ7 Build in progress, 258 with T-5 and dana 300.
Fiberglass tub Raptor lined interior, rustoleum lined the underside. Modified family roll bar from fender mounted rollbar. Full tie ins to the frame soon to come.

I just did the same YJ swap. You will need to move your cross member body mount holes outboard by 3/4" each to get them to line up with your YJ tub.
