Rear Bumper/Tire Carrier Combo for CJ
Does anybody know where to find a rear bumper/tire carrier system for less than $550.
4WD hardward sells their own brand along with the Warn bumper/tire carrier but they're both over $500.
Too da,m expensive for a poor Jeeper.
Any ideas??

Well your best bet, short of paying the $550, is to build your own. It's not all that hard to do just a lot of metal and a lot of welding. Steelhorse might have something cheaper, but you get what you pay for.

Try this guy. It looks like good stuff to me.

Thanks for the referral. I checked out this guy's website and I'm not sure if he makes the bumper/carriers for CJ's cause all the pics on his websites are of Wranglers. I emailed him to ask him.
Adios.

Weird, I emailed him this morning and asked if he made them for CJs too. Maybe if we keep asking, he'll do it.

Try Cross Enterprises. I haven't checked Miike's prices lately, but I know mine was much less than $550 a few years ago. Top notch quality.

Well that was obviously a few years ago, but if you add up the bumper, tire carrier, frame reinforcement kit, and shipping, you're way over 500 bucks.

Thanks for the referral. For the bumper ($180 w/o receiver, $210 w/) with the tire rack ($265) it would come to $445 - $475.
He must have raised his prices in the last couple of years.
But are you happy with the product. Do you get any rattling?

I'm very happy with it and it doesn't rattle at all. In fact it's coming off of one Jeep to go on my latest project. I would have made my own, but at the time I bought that one I worked in excess of 80 hours a week and needed a tire carrier badly. I am happy enough with it to keep it for the new Jeep instead of making one.

That one from Rock Solid looks real good....like the looks of those bearings, should last forever.
Too bad I've already started building mine...I'm using 2, 3/4 heim joints spaced six inches apart for my pivot point.
Should have about $50 in materials when finished..

I almost bought a Rock Solid front bumper because my stock CJ bumper is welded on by the PO. He wanted it beefed up so he could tow it behind the motorhome. I couldn't get the winch brackets to fit because of the bracket welding the PO did. But, I managed to grind part of it off so the winch would fit. I have a hard time paying that much, even though it's a better price than most, for bumpers that I'll probably run into stuff with anyway. I'll probably smash into rocks or trees or other jeeps.
I just mounted a spare 33 on the back of my stock tire carrier and it seems fine. My rear bumper does seem to support some of the weight of the tire. What ever you decide, have fun.
