RE Express 4.5"

Is anyone running the Re express 4.5" lift with different shackles? I want to try to clear 35's without body lift or fender trimming and was thinking the 4.5" with some larger shackles would do the trick. If so how does it ride and what brand shackles are u using?

The RE 4.5" lift used 2.5" wide springs in the front and comes with special shackles for that purpose. The original width on a cj is 2" in the front, so the RE shackles are 2" on top and 2.5" on bottom. I hope that makes sense. I have not seen other shackles that are longer that are set up the same way but they may be out there. I clear 35x12.5x15 with no body lift and minimal trimming.

info can be found here. http://www.rubiconexpress.com/Jeep/C...Sh&part=RE2785

Ditch the stock CJ front shackle hangers and buy a set of CJ rear hangers and put them on the front.(search for YJ width springs on front) Then you don't have to run conversion shackles. Just buy a set of rear CJ shackles in whatever length you need.

I have 3" YJ lift springs, 1" lift shackles, and 1" body lift and can clear 35s easy so you may not even need a lift at the shackle. YMMV.

Are YJ front and rears the same size as CJ rears? So I could replace the front hangers with cj rear hangers and then just run a YJ lift correct?

Width wise yes. CJ's have 2" wide front springs and 2.5" rear. YJ's are 2.5" front and rear. The YJ fronts are an inch longer - easy shackle hanger adjustment (just move the new hangers 1 bolt hole forward in the frame from the stock location). Not sure on the length comparison on the rears.

I pieced together my suspension - didn't buy a kit. Went 3" YJ Black diamond on front and 3.5" BDS CJ springs in the rear and then leveled it with shackles. That combined with my 1" body lift could easily clear 35's and with the trimming I did before the lift I could go even bigger.

The RE shackles are already longer to allow the longer springs to flex. Longer shackles will change your caster and you'll have to adjust it.

I did a 1" body lift.

K.I.S.S and do the 1" taller body mount bushings, your stock bushings would be worn out by now anyway. Spring length varies by brand and I can tell you for a fact that RE XD springs are long and the YJ version will not fit properly without moving both sets of shackle hangers (I pulled a rear YJ pair off of mine a few weeks ago and replaced them with the CJ version due to this).
