Quick Question / Turbine Wheels

I found some turbine wheels on Craigs List. Bolt pattern sounds correct. The guy can't tell me any more.

Are these 8 or 10 inch wide? Are they 15" rims? Are they 3 3/4 to 4 inch backspacing? Does anyone have these that can say?

http://newhaven.craigslist.org/pts/3771602640.html

Thanks in advance.

Bob

Judging by the size of the tire on them and the lack of sidewall bulge I'd say they are probably no more than 8" wide and look to have a pretty neutral stance.....so probably 4" of BS.

Ask the guy to give you the numbers on the sidewall of the tire. That'll tell you if it's a 15" rim or not. There should also be a number cast into the back side that indicates the back spacing.

to be safe, also have him measure the diameter of the hole in the center of the wheel. Depending what they actually came off of they may not fit over your hubs regardless of having the right bolt pattern (ie. jeep rims fit a ford but not the other way around....IIRC)

Thanks Jeepwhore. You were right on the money!

He just got back to me with the info he said he didn't have, hmmmm.

He said they are 15 x 8 and he had them on a CJ5.

They may be worth the 1 hour drive to look at them.

Doesn't $250 sound a little high? By the picture they look like a total sand blast, polish and paint is needed. Or are these unique in some way other than I like them cuz their different.

If they don't come with 20 of the proper lug nuts required to mount them then $250 is too much. Even with the nuts it's probably more than I would pay. But then again, I'm a Jeep owner and nothing is worth what the seller is asking!

20 lug nuts for these wheels would run between $40 and $60, if the nuts the owner has are all rusty, I would deduct $60, or if he isn't selling them with the wheels.

I would pay $200 for them, but then I have a set for a GM truck. I wouldn't sell them for a hundred a piece.

I paid $80 ( without lugs) for the ones I have, this was 8 years ago. I had to sand blast the open areas, and sanded the "spokes" then had them clear coated.

If you don't have to have them, offer $160. They may look good but they could be bent or out of round.

^^This! I bought a set off a guy that he used on a scout. Looked like similar condition to those in your pic. After I got them I found they had several cracks that had been welded on the backside and some nasty dings/gouges. When I called the ******bag seller and asked why he failed to mention this after I asked him what condition they were in prior to sale he played dumb and claimed he had no idea. I threw them in the garbage and the weasel refused to refund any of my $200.

Thank you all very much for the info. I am hot to trot on these turbine wheels.

I really wanted Torque Thrust wheels:

http://www.cjponyparts.com/product.a...FQFx4AodoTcAJQ

But none of them have a center hole anywhere near big enough to go over the front hub. And I was willing (or crazy enough) to machine it bigger but the style just doesn't seem to allow it without removing to much material.

Because it is an old vehicle I wanted to stick to an "Old School" style wheel. So the Turbine, or Hurricane wheel seems second best. At least they fit.

Jeepwhore,
It's interesting that you had some with cracks. I saw some on flea bay that the guy said "has some cracks on the back that need welding." Seems like a common theme. Can you tell me where the cracks were so I can check on these when I go look at them. Near the bead, near the bolt holes? Whatever.

CJ7 Rob,

The guy told me they are 15x8, but what I am seeing on the web says they are 15x8.5. Can you confirm the width and backspacing on yours. A backspacing of 3.75/4.00 should be OK? I will most likely install 33x12.50 tires. And if you noticed, on some of these wheels the spokes end at the center section, and on the ones I am looking at the spokes overlap the center section. Which are yours?

Looking on ebay I found a couple sets of similar going for $500. Not saying they will get that but it is a data point.

Thanks all for the help.
