Quick A/C question

Hey. what years could you start getting Air Conditioning in a CJ? Also how hard is it to put it in? A friend has a '76 CJ that we want to put A/C in. It's good to have out here when it gets up to 120. Thanks

I am contemplating doing this myself. I have the pieces out of a YJ and it's just a matter of installing it. You will need the underdash air ducts/controls, condensor that goes in front of the radiator, fill/sight cannister, hoses and pump. This is a totally do-able project. It will require some fab to redo the mounting brackets at the front grill to get the YJ condensor to fit and depending on what compressor you use, some brackets may need to be fabbed. The best setup would be to use factory brackets depending on what engine you have - brackets are available for AMC V-8's (York comp.) and 258's that use a rotary compressor.

I just saw 2 complete AC "kits" on a message board at www.dirtroad.com I think the guy said he wanted $250...says it includes everything needed for a 6 cyl.
