Hello I just bought a 79 Cj7 with a V8 302 and it has Quadratrac 4x4 I'm not very familiar with it .Is it dependable ? should I put locking hubs on it? it runs great. just any info good or bad will be helpful
The q trac uses an limited slip differential in the casing. You can't realistically use hubs without a part time kit or you run the risk of destroying the differential.
The cases are good, however, they have a tendency to stretch the drive chains, and quality replacements are hard to come by these days.
Be sure the emergency drive is operational. There should be a vacuum switch inside the glove compartment.
Do a search on the t case. There is a ton of information here on it.
Q-case get a bad rap due mostly from poor maint. As stated it's a good case if mantained. Read up on how to mantain, use correct fuild for it and it should give you years of service. Also as stated if you want part-time hubs, you will need to source a part-time time kit. If you need a chain for it everyone states to stay away from ones made over-seas.
Good luck with her!
