Almost done with my Attempt at the duct modification. I have to trim the hose a little and screw the upper pipe up.
Instead of cutting the lip off the heater box like the first one shown and screwing a flat piece on top, I wanted to retain the lip just in case. So, I made a slip on piece out of sheet metal that I will silicone on and hold it with a few sheet metal screws from the front. I think it will work out fine. Gauges should fit now. Everything was found at Home Depot for about $20
Funny how everything snowballs and one thing leads to another.

oh your defrost mod is just what I'm looking for. I had my double d dash in the other night and the speedo was interfering with the stock setup. I'd love to hear a little bit more about what you used!

OK, First off - In no way am I taking credit for this Idea. I found it searching on here. I don't remember who did it first. So if it was anybody looking at this, Feel free to take your dues. This is what I did after studying your pictures. Hope it helps others. I did this so I could fit 3 other gauges above the oil & volt gauges and have clearance.

Parts list-
- 2 ft piece of 1 1/2" black ABS or PVC your choice ( use same color fittings)
- 2 end caps
- 2 short Y fittings
- 5.5" X 4.5" piece of sheet metal
- 2 Adapter 1 1/2" to 1 1/2" thread
- 3 ft. of hose of your choice

All was found at home depot.

-glue pieces together to resemble photo- needs to be 24" assembled. You might have to grind down the joints a bit on the sides to fit it flush under the dash

- after it's dry, put it in the table saw and cut it in half.

- bend and work your sheet metal to fit around and over the box opening. Then drill holes in it for the Threaded Adapters and screw them in

- fit it up under dash , the end should be about 43" from drivers side end of dash to clear the glove box.

- drill your 2 holes from the top and screw in place

So the half pipe fits snugly under the "whatever-it's-called" part of the cowl? Did you use any foam for a better seal? How did you anchor it... using a long screw right through it? That's Kick-Butt Shaun! Thanks for posting it. I wouldn't have thought to do that on my best day.

2 Screws, About 1 1/2" with a washer and nut. Down through it in the original locations.
The Original one did not have any foam. I thought about it. but it's pretty tight up there. I might use some black silicone around the edge before it goes in permanently.

dash is almost done. just waiting on a tach.
Made a plate for the 5" speedo that mounts from behind like the original speedo with the 4-5/8" hole in it that was needed. Also made trim rings out of door knob protectors made to mimic the black center overlay for the Clock/Tach. These were needed due to the tach hole being a little to large for a new 2-5/8 tach.
Wiring harness and ECU, Hopefully next week.

Tach came!
with my fabricated trim ring and the use of the old tach cup, got it all buttoned up.
I also put red LED's in all the gauges.

Pretty smart innovation Bud. You keep giving me all of these cool ideas, and I'm never gonna remember them! I'm with Mike... waiting for the night picture of the dash. Maybe tonight??
