Problems with Tach

As im putting together the final parts of the jeep I started it up and it runs great. Then I reinstalled the tach I had. And it barely runs at all. Unplug it and it runs great again. I have no idea as to why. I am hooking it up the same way it was before.

6 or 4 cyl? If it's the 258, it shouldn't run at all unless the tach is hooked up or are you re connecting the two thick red wires back
together?

Did you get an aftermarket tach? If so, it is wired differently then the stock tach.
