pricing a Cj5

everything i have on my 73 cj5 is listed in my sig.

one thing. the rings just blew. so i need a new block. everything under the hood is new, head, exhaust manifold, carb, battery, alternator, etc.; except the block itself. the tires have very few miles, and have about 99% tread. the body is in great shape, the paint isnt to bad, except for a discolored fender that had been replaced.the top is good. seats/ interior good. i love this jeep, the block is bad though and i bought a TJ. i need money and i actually have a 258 out of a F-100 that i am told will hook up perfect.

the ques. should i sell as is? how much?

should i replace the block with the one in the F-100? then sell? how much?

TIA

I am no expert on this but I would say put the motor in so it runs and drives. I think you will be able to get considerably more out of it if you have the time to make the swap.

Just my .02

Who told you that? No Ford ever came with a 258 and no Ford engine is a direct swap. The Ford six cylinders are quite a bit longer than Jeep six cylinders.

hahah CSP! your right..
the only inline 6 they put in the F100 was the 240 or the 223..
besides the 240 and the 223, they just put the V8 into her.
I know this because 6 years ago me and my dad rebilt a 1964 F100 with a 223 in it.
but I would say if you do have a rebilt 258, put it in befor you sell the Cj5.. you can get your $$ worth out of it then..

go to a junk yard and pick up an AMC 258, you can get them for as low as $50. you can prolly just throw all the stuff from your old block onto the junkyard block and it will run, it takes a lot to wear out a 258.

the block you have is a 300 ford I6, it has a ford bolt pattern. not the same and wont work. sorry
