Power steering question
I have Chevy 10 bolt (wide track) axels. Does this mean I will need a GM power steering unit, or can i use a stock Jeep unit??
The power steering doesn't care what axle you have. Although the factory Jeep unit is actually a GM unit. You'll just need to make sure you have tie rod ends that match the knuckles.
77 CJ-7- AMC 360, Edelbrock cam, MC2100, Fenderwells, CJ T18/D20, Chevy D44/EB 9" rear, Trutrac f/r, 4.11, SOA, 1.25 lift shackles, 35x12.50 BFG KM2s, Shackle Reversal
The Saginaw power steering gear box used in CJs should work fine with your Chevy front end. If you don't currently have a gearbox, you may want to look into using one out of a Hummer (search for H1 steering swap for more details). It's a direct bolt on swap, and it has a couple of advantages over the stock CJ unit (larger/stronger bearing surfaces, and a variable ratio sector gear so you don't have to turn the wheel as much for tight turns).
