Power drops off when at high rpm

Currently I have the 258 with a single barrel carb. Idles and runs great, good power. Problem is at higher rpms (not sure where no tach hooked up yet) the engine power just drops off when giving full throttle at the high end of the current gear. It just cuts out, then if I let off the gas it works as it should. Can anyone point me in the right direction...

When you give it heavy throttle or when your at high rpm's it's not getting the fuel it needs and runs into a lean condition where the fuel demand is higher than the output. It could be a number of things including fuel pressue, pump output, carb jetting... If this is a new problem it could be a pinched line, plugged filter or clogged jets if not then might be one of the previous listed issues. Hope that helps

Thanks, Looks like I'm digging back into the carb....I'm not sure if it has a power valve or not. I just bought it a week ago and am learning a lot fast.

Wierd thing is that I have stomp on the gas and no problem, only at higher RPMs when I step on the gas it falls flat. Recovers when I let off. Carb is stock Carter BBD. Also I guess its a two barrel. Fooled me.
