pics of my new motor project
I think I can finally post pics now....here is some of the work my friends and I have done on my 84 cj7. sorry for the oversize...
right before I took the hood off to start:
out comes the engine/tranny/transfer
my buddy Glenn, tremendous help to me on this project!
Mounting the intake/header
getting there...paint is done, drivetrain most of the way back in
right before we got the timing set and the engine started
off topic, but on the vette forum we have alot of jeepers, might as well show my other favorite toy off here 69 L46 350 4 speed 55k original mile, frame off restored vette roughly 400 horses,400 ft lbs torque, 11:1 compression
have the jeep to beat the heck out of, and the vette to beat the heck out of everything else heheh

Love the Vette, guy! My stepdad used to have a cherry red '65, and that thing was awesome. It about killed me when he had to sell it.
I noticed you are using the custom valve cover on your 258. I'm having some oil leakage problems around the seal, since for some reason the allen bolts they sent were too long. What did you use in place of them? The picture isn't clear enough to see for sure what combo of bolts and washers.

thanks for the comps everyone!
on the valve cover...I believe i used 5/16-18 hex on the sides(drivers side had to use allen to be able tighten them down- no way to get a wrench on that side), 1/4-18 on front and back. then I used spreaders held down by nuts on the head bolt studs that rise above the valve cover lip. I will see if i have a clear picture of it. if not, I will take one this weekend and post it. valve cover oil/rear main leaks were what initially got me started on this project lol. on my old engine, drilled heli-coils into the head to try to hold it down better but nothing stopped the leak at the back(tried many other things including changing cover too)
finally just gave up trying to seal everything since it had almost 200k anyway. my pcv system had gotten clogged and I think it just compromised every gasket on the motor lol.
ps- I believe the valve cover bolts were only 1/2" long also...

The allens they sent me were a bit too long I think. I had back oil leaks on the 4 cylinder I had before, and I'm trying my best to get these gone, so it doesn't happen the whole time I have this one. I'm saving up for an electric fuel pump too, since the fuel pumps (yes plural, as in 8 over the time I had that piece of junk in my jeep), leaked gas into the oil when they went, and I didn't know it until I heard rattling everytime I went into 4th gear. In the meantime, my new 6 has to put up with the same type of pump, since it's my daily driver.
Thanks for the offer on the photos. I'm one of the "If I can see it, I can do it" type of people. The photos may be all I need.

Got that pic handy yet buddy? I'm doing a little more work on mine now than I would like, since I rolled it on some black ice a week ago this past Friday. The good new is though, with the money the insurance company is giving me, I'm replacing ALL dented areas, including dented before the accident, getting a 1978 CJ-7 hardtop (to replace the YJ one I had before), a new paintjob, and better sealing doors. I guess the rollover was a gift in disguise seeing how all I got was a little scrape on my knee.
