It does look really good in the pictures. Its amazing what PO's put behind bondo as a filler.

Ok... so I need to get two stripped torx out of my tailgate. I know WHAT to do, just not sure HOW. Weld a nut to the torx. Do you just aim the tip inside the base of the nut and filler up? Or a series of tacks? What about welder setting? Something like for 1/8 steel?

Fill it up, and settings for 1/8" sound about right to me.

I prefer to weld the largest washer without going past the edge of the Torx. Or a fender washer. Then weld the nut on. I've never had any luck welding that deep into a nut. A jam nut might be better.
I run my 110v Lincoln at 3/4 of Max. Its not going to do any good to fill the nut to the top. Its all about initial penatration.

On edit, I keep the weld to 1/2 the nut. This has never failed me. If you were worried about to much weld on the nut, use a coupleing nut

Thanks Dave and Bill! I set my Hobart 187 for 1/8 steel with .030 solid wire and gas. First attempt I obvious had zero penetration and twisted the nut right off the torx. All further attempts were successful and all torx removed. I used jam nuts like Bill suggested and worked very well. I didn't actually try to fill the nut... it just ended up that way after welding on two sides of the nut.

I know this is simple for most, but having never done this before there was as sense of accomplishment.

Not sure how I have managed to miss this build, I just finished a quick read through and could not seem to find what paint you used on that beautiful 258. I'm about to tear into the 258 in mine to give it a check over before I put a 4.0 head and fuel injection on it and since I'll have it out I might as well paint it. Anyways now I'm subbed so I'll be watching this one for sure.

A little more progress. All the tub bolts are out and tub is ready to be lifted off. As soon as I can sucker my buddy to come over and help. Hopefully tomorrow. Only two refused to come out. Fixed that with the sawzall. Defrost duct metal cut out as well as the tailgate cable mounts to go over to the YJ tub. Started stripping the engine. Tub will be headed to the metal recycler. Hopefully bondo weights more than steel. At $12 per 100 lbs I should be $24 richer.

Sheeesh, Paul. Even your tear down is clean! I have not seen anyone with a torn down Jeep that looks that neat! Shouldn't there be stuff sticking out everywhere? Is the tub literally 200 pounds?

I think I read a post by Keith460 that a stripped CJ7 tub weights 224 lbs. I am OCD when it comes to working in the garage. Crap will be everywhere and at the end of the day I clean it all up. I am running out of room too! I wanted to turn it around on the wheel dollies but with the tub on one side and the frame on the other I will not have enough room to turn it 180. I need MoC to build me an addition!!!!
