Parts that are know to not fit or be sub par

I have seen a few post about parts that fit but I thought I would off to start a CLEAN post about known parts that are a waste of time.

A grade of A for perfect reproduction to F for complete failure. Preferably list the part number, manufacturer.

If this is done already, please ignore and admin please delete it.

I will start with

Speedometer Assembly
Grade D
Crown part 5761110
110-144$
http://www.jeep4x4center.com/speedom...l-5761110.html

The unit does not have any isolation for the brake and 4wd light. they appear to glow when not engaged. the back light bulbs illuminate them. I sent it back so i can not comments on the accuracy of the gauges. 140 $ i expected more.

crown body mounts cj7

body mount kit
crown part 5462446K
FFFFF
80$
http://www.jeep4x4center.com/body-mo...-5462446k.html

Possibly the biggest waste of time and money so far. Does not come with the mount for under the grill. The grill mount is available on Ebay for another 40$
2- All of the tubes need to be cut to fit, not sure why but what a PIA. the flange washers are attached and it is not so easy to get it in a vise or clamp.

A lot of modifying to make it work.

I bought a Crown replacement chain for my Quadratrac transfer case, stretched it beyond use within four hours.
I will say that Crown gave a quick and easy refund, and didn't even ask for the chain back. Kudos to the E-bay seller also for his cooperation.

the body mount kits are all going to include the grille mount setup in a few weeks (if not already). I remember Keith had a write up showing some of the metal tubes needed to be trimmed but I didn't think it was all? I will see if I can help and put a bug in their ear about getting it fixed. I deal with a few of them through my work that are more than willing to help & fix issues.

The q-trac t-case chains use to only be Morse made in USA chains, but those are no longer made/available so they went overseas, and are working with the manufacturer to improve the design. They were supposed to be fixed, but apparently the manufacturer is still sloppy or just an old unit floating around for sale.

The FACTORY STOCK IGNITION FOR ANY 1975-1977 CJ. It was made by Prestolite and is junk. Most of the repair parts are unavailable anymore. If you try to replace the distributor, they don't even want the old one back for a core anymore.

Fortunately a Motorcraft distributor for a 1978 will fit, but you will need to replace the ignition box with either a Motorcraft or something like a MSD box.

There are also HEI ignition distributors that will fit too.

Either way, LOSE the Prestolite and be happy you did.

I'll only give it a "D" because there are still some Jeeps getting by with it.

Almost everything I bought from Quadratec that said Crown(as well as other brands I cannot recall) on the box during my resto needed modification to fit or function properly.

Gauges out-of-the-box that didn't work at all, or needed to be modified to work with the factory wiring.

Hell, even the sheet metal I bought that was suppose to be a drop-in replacement for the floor panels looked like it had absolutely nothing to do with a CJ. Ended up hammering most of it flat and using it as standard flat stock sheet metal.

In fact, the only things I can think of off the top of my head that went on properly with minimal fighting was the tailgate hinges, weather stripping around the doors, and the air filter

Many of the parts were not even close to the design of the original, requiring different holes to be drilled, different hardware(which was RARELY provided), etc.

On the flipside, everything my stepdad has bought for his JK fit like a glove. I guess the world doesn't give a crap about CJ owners. To be honest, my resto has turned me off to the idea of possibly owning another CJ in the future. I might, but I doubt I will. Just left a very aggravated taste in my mouth.

For the money spent on some of these parts you would expect better.

Laredo Clock

Clock for cj
D
crown part 5761330
60-70$
http://www.jeep4x4center.com/clock-f...n-5761330.html

The clock fit the hole but is is not the same as OEM.
The face is different.
Worse there is no connectors on the back to plug it in, the clock has a few inches of wire (24 gauge? super thin) that they want you to crimp to. To do it properly you would need to purchase a male/female plug but the wires are so small i am not sure it will crimp. Most likely need to be soldered.

Sent it back, can not comment if it keeps time. Found a company in WI, "the clock works" they will rebuild it and ship it back for just a few more $ than the crown aftermarket.

Everything I have bought that said omix-ada gets a F-.
The biggest problem I see is that there's a lot of replacement parts that the only choice you have is omix or crown.

Them too. I knew there was another besides Crown.

I have not seen the parcel, while directly delivery at the garage but...

Front amber blinker lense cover

Front lens cover for blinker
Omix 8127449
C
10$

the lens is .090 to short ot the gasket flange is .090 to proud.
Either way the lens cover will not tighten again the grill with the gasket installed. It will hold everything tight but there is a large gap.
