Painless Wiring Harness, Any advice?
I have a 1979 cj7 with a 304v8, and I am planning out the future of it. My plans are to tear it completely down and go through it all from the ground up. Figured Might as well do it right and replace all the wiring. When checking on the painless website though it shows that there are two kits that will work, but then on the summit website it only shows one of them will work.
Part #'s 10106 10110 Has anybody done this to there jeep while in the process of a rebuild? Whats the difference between the two? Thanks!

i have 10110 installed on my jeep and it was pretty straight forward and simple. not something i would want to do again, but everything was labeled and it came with instructions for all the different types of ignition. the dash seems to be all plug and play while the engine bay was all soldering, so keep your old harness for the connectors.
i picked it and a new windshield frame up locally for $200, practically stole it. |

I have a 78 cj5 and I bought the 10110 harness and it worked great. Be careful and follow the instructions and you'll be fine.

Didn't go with the painless myself. Went instead with the Centech harness. Was cheaper than painless and installed in no time. Also preferred the different style of bulkhead connector. Seems to be more reliable. One thing Centech did was added a constant power wire that goes through a water tight connection so I don't have to worry about a bad connection through the bulk head connector. That was one of the problems I had in conjunction thit the Howel TBI as any drop in voltage when cranking would give me all sorts of headaches.

not to hijack this tread but I am about to order a painless for my CJ, have a 86 with a 304 out of a 76, was going to order the 10106 harness, would this be my best bet or should I look at the 10110? also done some searchs on here about others but most i found were older. any other harness I should look at thats easyer to install or about the same for a better price? sofar the best Ive found is $404 with a $100 rebate for the painless, seams Like a good deal. thanks

Hmm, through the summit website it shows that I need the 10110 Maybe it is because of the column ignition....cause if you remove that from the filter on summit it shows both the 10110 and the 10106 Sucks cause the column ignition one is like $150 more on summit.

I used the 10110 harness and most everything was pre-terminated and encased in wire loom. I believe the 10106 is not preterminated and is not run in loom.
I am an electronics instructor and I can tell you that the 110 is the way to go. It has been a few years since I did mine, but I think the only wires that are not pre-terminated is the fuel sender, coil wire and the tail lights. Ken The one on the left is the 106 and the right is the 110. |

Correction, the one on the top is the 106, bottom is the 110.
