Nice cage.

I can't say I care for all the diamond plating, especially the rear flares, but that's a good looking rig, nevertheless.

Thanks guys! I did the steel diamond plate on the fenders instead of grip tape for the little feet that will climb on them. The aluminum diamond plate was done by the PO, I have pulled a bunch already from the inside and the side rocker area will come off when I install the sliders after the paint has hardened. I am afraid to look under the corner diamond plate LOL

Tuffy center console

I am getting ready to install the cage this weekend and the console plays a big part of it. So I figured better get it ready.

I purchased it off of ebay as a dealer demo "new". This has pros and cons, the pro was it was only 130 bucks instead of 250. The cons were the color and the large astrik-ish shaped cut out in the driver side to show off the inside. Not to big of a deal, I drew up a dxf and cut it on the plasma table along with a bunch of other mounts and brackets for it.

It will house lots of electronics. The first detail will be a main master cut-off switch, cuts off power to the starter and a few other things as well. Power will be tapped off of that switch to run to a 6 pole fuse block that will power the CB, Tri-band ham radio, sony marine radio and some 12v plugs for charging and DVD players. I was going to install a linear amp but the CB shop was able to tune the old Cobra 29 NH ST to sing quite nice. The Linear amp is old and large so I will have more room without it.

After all the mounts and stuff was fit, I sprayed it with a rustoleum "bed liner" spray paint, used two cans of the stuff, we'll see how it turns out tomorrow.

Thanks, I am not as deep as you are though! I am enjoying and learning from your thread.

Today I put in the cage. It is "permanent" from this point and will have the seats and belts put in over the weekend. The console paint came out much better than I expected, it has a somewhat textured finish and feels durable. If time permits, I will start the wiring of the console too.

I have been thinking about purchasing a center console like you have and I was planning on installing the cb in the radio slot. So my question for you is that a cobra 29? i cannot tell on the iPad and would it have fit in the radio slot?
I love your cage. I need to build something like that.

It did not fit the radio slot (darn), that would have been my first choice. It is a Cobra 29 NH ST, just had it serviced and it is working good. It is just narrow enough to fit in the main compartment of the console (tuffy calls it a 8" wide) which is 7.75" wide. With all the gear in it, I lost about half of the storage space. I do have a fuse block and master cut-off switch in there too. Still I can put a few things in ther to keep secure. I love the lock/latch sytem, it would take some effort to get in there.

Found these at the local steel yard and could not pass them up!

Managed to get a whole bunch done today. The cage is bolted, the frame tie-ins are tight and the rear seat is in and adjusted. The driver seat is in but not bolted tight yet, I need to finish up the console before the front seats get nylock nutted and adjusted. Got the dome LEDs mounted and the speakers mounted. Did some prelim wiring on the console, got the fuse block in and the distribution block mounted, used the bolts as a ground. The next step is to figure how and where to hole saw drill a 1-1/8" hole through the floor of the body to string the 2awg cables that go from the batt and too the starter and the two antenna cables that go to the rear. Once that is done and the console is live (12v) wiring will go pretty fast.

Only had the phone for a camera today, sorry for the poor quality.

Thanks, I have been watching yours very close. I hope you get out this weekend.

Today was spent on the rear tool rack that will fit between the swing out bumper and mount to the tub, It will also have two antenna mounts, one on each side of the top (long) tube. Got it all tacked and fit but ran out of day. Also received a AtoZ fab bumper builders kit with the mega spindle. Looks like good stuff should work for our Jeep for sure. It will have a 33" tire with a rubicon rack on top and two 5 gallon cans, lots of stuff for expeditions!

Got the rack welded and all the stuff fitted, just need to grind it with a 100 grit disc and prep for paint and then get it painted. From there I can get back to the console to wire everything up. The rear rack was holding me up a bit due to the antenna mounts being on the rack. Good enough excuse to get it done.

Spent a good part of the weekend on the console and rear rack. Got really close! I did not get the CB or Tri-band radio installed. The wiring and mounts are there but just ran out of time to get them in. All the other stuff is done, the hard stuff. I had to hole saw drill a 1.5" hole through the tub on the passenger side to run the two 2awg battery cables and the two coax cables through. I used a grommet and some liqued tape to seal it, it's the first time I have used the stuff, looks like a good seal and dries pretty quick. Now I can disconnect the starter from inside the console using a master diconnect switch. It also provided all the 12v needed to wire the electronics in side the console. I put a 6 output mini blade fuse box in there too. The Sony stereo sounds good, should be able to hear it over the glasspacks no problem. The little Enroc speakers put out decent sound for the money, best of all they are waterproof. Love the two rear dome LEDs, they are some what spot but cast a nice glow all around the back, if you set a book or map on the fenderwell, you can read it clearly, perfect for back seat drivers.

The rear rack fit up good and the antenna mounts sit nice and straight LOL. I used 1/2-13 seatbelt bungs for the hi-lift mount and screwed in 2" long set screws with Gr8 flange nut turned backward, tightens up nice and no wobble. The verdict is still out on the quick fist holders. They clamp up nice but have a very small screw holding them on (10-32).

Karis goes back to storage for a little while until I get cought up on my other work, should be a couple of weeks and back at it.

Everyone have a great week!

WSS
