Original golden eagle?

Just purchased a pile that was once a jeep, and am curious, was this an original 77 golden eagle. I base this guess on the "Limited Edition" on the hood and pinstripe around the grill. Pics to follow.

The pinstriping on the grill and wheels sure looks correct. The hood decal looks right as well. I can't comment on the "Limited Edition." I've never seen that before. A nice bonus is those wheels should be 15x8. If I remember right, it'll be stamped inside the rim. The hood and decal in my profile pic is not the original. But I still have the original hood with decal if you want me to shoot some pics.

Please post em, I want to think this was a lucky find for me, 400 bucks for the whole mess, and it is a mess. My curiosity was the eagle on the hood has no white in it and all others I have seen do. Does yours have white in it?

The rolling chassis is probably worth more than what you paid. Did you get any other body parts or are you going to have to find the rest ?
Either way, great project, can't wait to see progress..
Congrats and good luck with the build and don't forget to post pictures as you go

Want to think I got all the important stuff (rims, hood, grill, rolling chassis w/motor/trans/xfer case) and the rest of the body stuff I"ll have to find or replace, most probably with a new tub. I did get the windshield, but the wiper motor cover was missing off it so pulled the vin(serial # off the frame. It was barely legible but I'm pretty sure the first number is a 7, so I think this was an original 1977 GE. IDK, the serial looks like it was stamped in the frame by someone high on crack that day.

Here are the pics of my hood. That VIN is weird. Not sure what to make of it. With it being a 77 it should have narrow track axles and the larger brakes. 11x2” drums and 1 1/8” rotors vs. the smaller ones that AMC starting putting on the late 78s. I’m not so sure about that hood decal with no white left at all. Of course that could have something to do with the Limited Edition. But I’m not a Golden Eagle expert by any means. Being a GE or not, I still think I’s a good deal for a solid looking CJ project at $400.
Here’s the paint codes I used.
AMC Code 7B Mocha Brown Coarse Metallic 1976-1978
(Ditzler/PPG-2895,DuPONT-44191 base color brown)

Road wheels- Golden Eagle - Gold - (72-R-61)
Ditzler Code 23674

The "Limited Edition" on the GE decal was a 77 only thing due to its limited exterior color choice (Oakleaf Brown). Here's a pic from the 77 brochure and you can make out the "Limited Edition" on the hood.

After 77, you could get a GE in several colors and the "Limited Edition" was removed from the hood decal. So if your firewall trim plate color code comes back as Oakleaf Brown (7E), then you've got a legit 77 GE.

Thanks for the help guys, and based on this and some other info I will make the call that it is an original 1977 GE. Suspect the white on the hood faded out. The number on the frame rail breaks down like this, J, 1st number after the J is the year and the rest is the serial number of the Jeep which fits perfectly with everything else I am finding. "Limited Edition", grill/rim stripes and brown paint also point to a 77 GE as in the pic above. This was originally bought as a parts Jeep to help keep my other Jeep going, till I saw the hood and was like, what are the chances, because I had never seen the limited edition on the hood either. Was there anything unique about the tub or front fenders on this GE I need to know? Never in my wildest dreams did I think this was even possible. Again, Thanks guys.

That's weird, there's dust coming from the mud on the picture...
