Orange 79 Cj7 build thread

So im working on my 4th Cj . this one is a 79 Orange with the blue Renegade stickers. it had black interior but I like the Blue levis look. so that's what Im doing. I have the back seat and a blue witco top. I need to get doors the visors ,front seats, and dash pad. im also working on finding a tub mine is rusty . Here is a pic of what im starting with it runs and drives fine. could use a set of brakes the pedal is a little low, but runs fine. I will update as I get more stuff and pics.

I picked up on some parts for my build. a Levi back seat and a blue Witco top complete with all hard ware, dash pad and visors. I will still be looking for another pad this one is a little beat up but the seller said take it so it will go on till I find a better one. just need to find some blue Levi front seats to finish off the interior.

Jleblanc31,

its probably not an original Renegade as it has no tach or clock or upgraded steering wheel. Just an observation. My 81 was not a factory renegade either but I sourced all those items as well as the stripes, decals, etc. factory tan fabric for my seats. its my jeep and I like it, im not a purist.

Im no purist either but like you im going to make it my own. it originally had black interior but that would be to easy to replicate . thanks for checking out my build . as soon as I find a decent tub and the front seats it will start looking better.

Clock and tach are not standard issue on the Renegade package on any model year. They were available as an option but it was standard on the Golden Eagle and Laredo model.

The 79 steering wheel for Renegade should be a spoke design with three holes on each one. I'd post a picture but photobucket not working.

Looks like you have more than your fair share of rust on the tub. I curious about your plans for dealing with that...

From my experience you never know how much total rust your are working against until you completely pull the tub.

Im currently looking for a tub . It will cost me the same to buy all the patch panels as it would to buy a new tub. it needs the top cowl panel, windshield frame, both side panels, front and back floor boards , at least one maybe both rear wheel wells, and a rear corner patch. and being a body man I know the cheaper panels aren't going to fit good so I would have to buy the more expensive ones. with the prices of those patch panels I could buy a new tub. So that might be what I do unless I can find a tub that just needs minor repairs. There is one in my neck of the woods that just needs floor patches and the sides by the jeep stamping he wants 600 and said he has the floor patches. But I need to go look at it and sell another toy to get the money together.

Just cleaned the blue top I found in my dads garage and I think it is a soft top for hard doors the mounting is a little different . He also found a Levi seat cover . and I put a Micky mouse winch on that the girlfriend gave me a few years ago for my other jeep. here are a few pics

Cute winch. What do you use it for?

I like the Denver Broncos color theme.
