WRONG. The dodge 354 hemi was the first, a cuple years befor the 283 was around.

and that 354 was not optional, it was the standard engine, the 283 only made 283hp with the Mechanical fuel injecton option. It also cost a hell of alot to get at the time ( mid late 50's)

I'd do the 283 sence you can get it cheap. The only I6's that can be up with v8's power wise are the 29( something) chevy and 300ford.

If you wanted to be really, really out of the world differnt, you could find a 305/351 V6 from a 60's and 70's GMC/chevy pickup/big truck. They would be the ultimate offroad motor, the 351 makes over 400ftlbs at 2000(or less)iirc. They dont rev high but they make alot of torque.

Well, I talked to the guy a week ago and he said he would be pulling it this weekend and I could come pick it up. I told him I would come over and help him pull it, he's said that's cool, see ya Saturday. So last night I pulled the $200 out of the ATM and called him at 9 am to verify today was the day. His reply was, him and his buddy pulled it on Wednesday and he sold it to his buddy for $150 All I have to say is That sorry @$$ MFSOB better never need my help again with his computers, Yea I'll gladly fix them at $100/hour
