The axles are sitting in the corner till I either work on them, or spring comes.

Cleaning the garage

I decided to clean the garage, with the help of a 'gentle' push from my girlfriend, this is what I started with,


And after I was done. It took about an hour.


It's still cluttered, but clean!

The bike is a Redline 3.1. Yes, I ride, I mostly blast through the woods, or across town. But one gear I think is better for that, you will go as fast as you can push. As opposed to a mountain bike anyway.

Agreed. I got Hoffman, haven't hit the streets in a while though sadly

but nice rig and nice bike

My garage is 20X30, decent enough to work in. I have plenty of room on both sides and front and back. It's great. But I have to get the Jeep apart before winter, so the Liberty can go in. Newborn=Minimum snow exposure desired. Aguy called me today wanting to buy my tranny and bellhousing, so right now I'm getting the engine out from under the Jeep, so I can get all that taken apart. Pics in awhile.

Old Sarge build Part 4

I used my jack to slowly lower the back of the Jeep from upright cynder blocks to 2 2X4's flat.


I am going to grind the bolts off of the shackles and the frame mounts. I will use new springs (need HD ones for the 4BT anyway) This is how I have it lifted up.


This is the drivers side rear spring mount for the front spring. Hack job, I know


This is the same mount only on the passengers side.


Ground off the head of the bolt.


Here are the springs after removal. They look ok, but I will need stronger ones.


Here is the disconnected transmission. It is a T-176 4 speed. The only thing wrong with it is I got it form the P/O without the shifter fork and rails in the top cover where the shifter enters the trans. Oh, well, its the NEW owners problem now.


Now, who wants a paperweight??

Well, I just flipped the frame and tub on the drivers side. Who knew there were holes on both sides of the gas tank....

After being sick for awhile, I finally feel better to day. So I started grinding on the bottom of my frame.
I removed assorted pieces of nuts and bolt heads, got rid of some of the heavy rust, and generally cleaned up. I still have to get rid of the rear spring mounts the PO put on, god they are ugly. Ziiiip! Off they go.

Due to the fact that I need to get my Jeep built and on the road A.S.A.P., I am scrapping the diesel idea. I know I could build the frame and suspension, and throw the engine in there later, I was thinking that the engine i have now, a Chevy 305, might just very well do the job just fine. I am not going crazy fast, not rock crawling, mostly trails through the forest and power line trails. I will change my tranny though, to a 4 speed, and I will need to rebuild the engine, and tranny, and re-seal the transfer case. I can find some decent driveshafts for cheap, and I will rebuild the axles, making sure they are durable. The inside will be spartan, but add ons inside will be a cinch to install. Paint, tires, and running all the lines and wires I can and will do in my garage, with the help of all of YOU, and various other sources.

Hey - cj7...I am wondering about the T-176 combo'd with the 305. Did you have a chance to hillbilly that setup before you had to start tearing down...or was this thing trailer'd and torn into?
