Is this an old motor mount? Doing v8 swap, and it's in my way

So I'm lowering my 350 into my frame, ready to mock up the Novak motor mounts for welding, and I see this. It looks like an old motor mount, or something. But it doesn't, and hasn't had anything hooked up to it. It is welded to the frame, so I can't exactly unbolt it. It appears to be pretty much exactly where I'm gonna need to put the left motor mount. My question is what is it? And how do I get it off? Maybe the jeep came with a v8 and the previous owner put in the 258???!?!? I'm not sure why anyone would do that, but right now, I'm totally stumped, and I have the welder coming over in a bit.
HELP?

Pete

It's a bump stop mount. You'll need to make provisions for an alternate bumpstop if you remove it.

what's a bump stop? Does it keep my axle from hitting my engine? or engine from going down into my axle when I hit a bump? Or something else?

It keeps your tires from tucking too far up into the fender preventing damage done to the tire or vehicle.

ahh, any recommendations on where to replace it? Or is it even needed? Not like I do crazy rock crawling or anything. I do have fat 33" tires though. 4" lift

That is pretty much what it does as well as keep the fenders attached still.

Can you not just build your mount on top of it? As long as the bolt is accessible for the bumper, it could maybe stay.

question. Why does only the left side (passenger side) of the jeep have it? It is it crucial, wouldn't both sides have it?

Well, the novak mount that hooks up to the engine hits it. So I'm not sure. If I put it on the rail above it, I think the engine would be on a steep angle.
I'll check real quick. be back in a few.

The other side does have one I believe, right on the frame I think, so do the back axles.

I might be able to put the mount behind it, but I need to angle my engine a whole hell of a lot more level to slide it in than I am. The problem with doing this is that I"m gonna have to unbolt the motor mount, cause I can't put it in level, and the distributor is hitting the firewall at the angle that I have it. So I'm thinking that if I get it in there level, then naturally, it'll free up a few inches from the angle alone. That might provide me with the clearance.

There are also small bump stops on the frame rails directly above the axle tubes. You can see the bracket for it in the picture he has posted. The bump stop on the bracket you are asking about makes contact with the flat flanged portion on the axle right next to the pinion.

That's a bump stop for the pinion not the axle. Look in the lower part of your picture on the housing next to the pinion and you'll see the pad where it's meant to hit. You already have bump stops for the axles on both sides front and rear. That stop is to keep the pinion from turning upward in case your springs twist which would let the pinion get into the side of the oil pan .

Don't put your mount on top of it, you need to cut it off the frame. I'm not sure you even need it if you've got a lift on your jeep. Mine is long gone and no problems.

He is missing the rubbers from the axle bumpstop by the looks of it.

I would just cut if off and make new ones later. Be sure to set the engine in correctly its supposed to be slanting a couple degrees back. Id be interested in seeing a bunch of pics when you get the mounts welded in, I bought the same motor mounts and will be doing mine real soon.
