oiling question

Getting ready to start my new 360 in my CJJ5. When I went to prime the oil system I had 3 rockers that no oil came out of. I primed the system with a drill with the vlve covers off and noticed 3 rockers on the drivers side didnt have any oil coming out of them. I know the pushrods are clean. What is the problem or is this normal till the engine actually rotates. Thanks

The compression of the lifter when the cam pushes up on the cam follower (bottom of the lifter) to "open" the valve pushes oil up the pushrod. When the lifter "closes" the valve, the lifter fills up with oil and start the whole process over...

So, the engine must be running to push oil up to the rockers....

Well I can tell you the engine doesnt have to be running to get oil to the rockers. They are all oiling now. Rotated crank a 1/4 turn and those 3 started and 2 of the others quit....lol.

No difference between an engine rotating because of combustion or an electric drill. System functions the same. Rotate it though slowly till you see every thing working the way you want.
