Oil Pan Removal - Is there a trick?

I'm having trouble removing the oil pan on my 78 CJ-7 304 V-8. I can get it down from the bottom of the block, but the oil pick-up seems to keep hanging the oil pan up. Any suggestions?

You may have to tilt it to get it to clear one motor mount first, which will give you a little more wiggle room to aline the pick up with the hole in the pan the pick up goes through. I had to keep tilting and wiggleing the pan until I got it just right to come down when I did it. It is also possible that the pickup rotaed a bit over time to one side or the other, but I wouldn't want to turn it if I could help it, it should be sealed to the block, wouldn't want to brake that seal.

also, the bell housing plate needs to come off, there's a tab on it that it will snag on

if you havent resealed an amc v8 oil pan before, do your research on how, its def a very touchy thing to get just right

Success

Got it off - I removed the pasenger side motor mount and used a jack to support that side of the engine - that motor mount kept hanging up the pan by like a quarter inch. Came right off then. Thanks.
