I would have to agree with Youngjeeper11 it's an awesome engine but support for it might be difficult but worth the challenge in my book

04Xmatt, that thing looks sweet. I wanted to do this swap until the only 4bt I could get were new ones for 3500. Not the route I could go with so I ended up getting a rebuilt 304 I'm planning on dropping in this summer. I would like you to keep us updated on how it runs on the HWY and off road with that heart transplant. One thing folks never seem to do. It helps us that want to do it get more asskicking into doing it...

What he said.
Looks really good and I'll bet you will really enjoy it on the trails. God bless.

Bought them from a guy on www.4btswaps.com. I'm pretty sure they are 1st generation dodge cummins mounts.

your 4-speed

Matt,

Really nice looking build. Do you still own/drive it? If so, how are you liking it?

A question: I have heard some say that a 4-speed is not a good match, especially for highway driving. How do you find it to be? I have an 83 CJ7 with a T-176/Dana30 that I was thinking about mating to a 4BT that I just bought. I was hoping it could be a bolt for bolt swap as my 4BT is a Ford style. I too have the AMC20 stock rear end. What would you do different now, looking back?

Thanks,

Ben

That is a Really good looking Jeep. I have my 4bt swap done and have been driving mine around and love it. I had the T150 and dana 20 behind my 4bt for about 8 months but even with the 3.54 gears the T150 wasnt cutting it for Highway speeds at 2500 RPMs i was at about 68 mph. I ended up selling the Chevy adapter plate and flywheel for 950 bucks and bought a ford adapter play and flywheel for 500 and installed a ZF5/dana 300. much better with the low first gear and the OD.

Did you use the fluid filled mounts or the flat rubber ones? I used the Rubber ones and the vibrations are harsh and I am thinking about changing to the Fluid filled mounts.

Specs:
Cummins 3.9 4bt
ZF5
Dana 300
Spring Over Axle
The rest is stock. Once I manage to break the AMC 20 I have a Ford 9 Inch to install. I have a Big list of more to do to it like once I have all the kinks out I will finish up the skid plate and put a Traction bar on it.
