It was skimmed over 2 pages back, but has anyone done this swap into a CJ3B? Currently the F-Head with T-90 and the 18 behind it, but I found a 360 from a 73 and was wondering if this was doable at all.

Once more with the flex plates for a 360 and 999

I read through all the posts and have myself thoroughly confused. Here is my configuration: I have an 84 CJ7 with the 258, TF999 and the 300 Tcase. I have a 74 360 out of a Waggy with the TH400 and Qtrac. I considered using the TH400 but decided on the 999 because it's already there and mated to the 300. Now, do I use the flex plate from the 258 or the 360? Will the torque converter from the original setup work with what I have to do because the one from the TH400 obviously won't work? I'm getting my notes together and making my parts list so I can start this project this fall or winter. Thanks in advance for the assistance with a topic that I'm sure has been covered before!

the 360 the balance of the motor but will have to be one from a 80 or up that had the 727 tranny and you will also have to pull the thin ring out of the back of the crank or you wont be able to get your 999 converter to fit the crank

should work with the right flex plate

you will need the cj v-8 block mounts and the pass side frame mount amd run the gas line to the driver side for the 360

I have the exact set up you are going with and Fuzz is right. My motor was out of an 85 waggy with the 727 so I was ok on the flex plate. I kept my 999 and 300 and it all bolted right up except one of the 4 holes on my torque converter was about 1/16" off center. I used the flex plate from the 360/727 and the converter from the 258/999 so definitely stick your flex plate up against the converter before you mount it to your motor and make sure all 4 bolt holes line up. You can buy the flex plates from your local auto parts store.

So what is the correct way to get the 360/999 to bolt up with all 4 bolts? I'll be using the flexplate from the '87 Waggy that is donating the 360.

Just to be clear I am talking about the 4 bolts that go through the flex plate and into the torque converter. Not the bolts that go from the 360 block into the transmission bell housing. Try lining your flex plate up with the converter and see if the 4 line up before you install anything. If not you may need to get a flex plate from a 360 that was bolted to a 999 or buy a new one from an auto part store. My flexplate was from a 360/727 set up.

Of course. I was referring to the bolts between the flex plate and the torque converter

I wasnt' sure if the 360/999 combination had it's own flex plate - didn't know that combination ever came from the factory.

Below is a link to a post by JeepHammer in your other thread. Looks like they were an option on other models. He would be the one to get this info from and he may even have a spare flexplate to sell you or atleast get you pointed in the right direction.

I am about to do this swap in a 1984 cj7 with a I6 to 360. I had the t-5 tranny. my question is will the transfer case cross member bolt right back in the same spot or does it move forward or back? I see there is several different locations tapped into the underside of my frame for the cross member to bolt to. thanks

If you will be using the T5 and the Dana 300 setup, everything should go back in the same location as with the 258. The location of the skid plate and which skid plate you would need (76 to 79, or 80 to 86) would be determined by your tranny and transfercase.

Jeep #1 = 76 CJ5, 304, T18, Twinstick Dana 20, Lock-Right in front, Yukon HD front axles, One piece axles - Detroit Locker in rear, 2.5" Rancho Springs, 1" lift shackles, 32x11.5 Super Swamper TSL/SX, Warn XD9000i, York OBA.
Jeep #2 = 80 CJ7, 401, T18, D300, 3" Black Diamond Lift, TrXus M/T 33x12.5, Yukon 1 piece axles, Auburn posi in rear, Detroit TrueTrac in front, Ramsey 8000.

I had the t-5 to a dana 300 but swaped that out for a np 435 and a dana 300. but that all bolted back up into the same spot. so im assuming that this will also.

Are CJ exhaust manifolds and Waggy/Jtruck exhaust manifolds the same? I notice that when I look up a y-pipe for '76-'79 CJ 304 it has a note that says 3 speed only. So I assume it won't work with the T18/Dana 20. Anybody used one of these y-pipes with a T176/Dana 300? My '83 CJ5 has the 258,T176/Dana 300. I also have a T18/Dana 20(and skidplate) out of a '78 or '79 CJ7. I already upgraded to a 3 core radiator. I have 2 360's one came with an auto and Dana 300(2 bbl) and the other came out of a J truck and is mated to a T18/Dana20(4 bbl).
