headers

I have an 83 with a 360. Sounds like our Jeeps are the same with the exception of the trannies.. I have a T5.
I ran hedmen headers from quadratec. They run inside the frame to a custom exhaust and out the back. It is very neat and the headers bolted up nicely.

This may sound silly but are you absolutely sure that your frame side engine mounts are on the correct sides? One is alot larger than the other and if they are switched around then the headers will not fit.

I know this because I did it and had this problem. I am using mounts from another CJ though that had a 304 in it. 304 engine and frame side mounts work on a 360 too.

The larger frame side mount has to be installed on the passenger side.

I can't say for certain but it does sound like your engine mounts may be the problem. If you like I will take a picture of my engine with the headers and mounts and email it to you.

I've got a 83 CJ7 was a 6 and just finished bolting in the AMC 360. I'm running the 176 trans / dana 300 with midified drive shafts to the correct length. I'm using the M.O.R.E. bomb proof engine mounts. With that said, I just bought a awesome pair of stearling coated Headman long tube Headers(part #99208 I believe) , When I first mocked them up they looked fine , but now I can see with them firmly bolted down, Its a total no go. They rest on the rear leaf spring mount on the passanger side and on the driver side I'm hitting my slave cylinder and will not come anywhere near bolting up. I called M.O.R.E and asked what headers they would go with and they said "not sure, and to try the forums". So guys I've heard hooker, Dynomax, and certain Headman headers will work. Does anyone know exactly what headers ill fit my application ? I really don't want to run Fender Well Headers. My plan was to keep the exhaust nice and tight inside the Fame rail's with small mufflers and turn-downs before the rear Diff. I'm also looking for the most performance I could get out of these headers. My 360 has a mild cam, nice intake and 4barrel. Thanks for your time

I retract the Previous part number I gave for the headers, they are (99200)'s Headan CJ5, CJ6, Cj7, 72-86 AMC V8 290-401. I'm positive my engine mounts are correct, In the first five minutes of putting them in I bolted them up on the wrong side and realized something wasn't right here. I already pulled the headers back out too, otherwise I would post pictures of them in the jeep. I really wanted to go long tube headers, but I guess shorty will have to do. Does anyone run hooker headers ?

Does anyone have any pictures if the Starter solenoid / alternator wiring. It looks like the V8 starter I just got is a one wire starter? I'm currently trying to sort the wiring out from my 6 banger to amc 360 swap. I also just put in the Hei Distributor , anyone know which wire I want to use for the power wire for it?

I also checked again last night and for my engine mounts I do currently have the larger/ taller mount on the passenger side and the shorter mount on the driver side.

Thanks that is a start, I would have had a very straight forward job with this but when I got the jeep the 6 banger was no where to be found and the 360 was in the back seat. thanks

Ok I can get my headers to barely fit, If I switch the holes I had the slave cylinder mounted in. The first picture you can see how close my header is to the passanger side rear spring mount.

I guess I have the wrong clutch Fork, my current one is too low, does anyone know which model Year and model FORK I need ? I believe the trans is a 176 ? The picture below is the current fork I have in and a picture of it in the truck. Do I have to pull my trans to get the fork out to swap it ?

#2 I have several wires and plugs that I'm not exactly sure what to send them to. On the solenoid LEFT side I have the battery and Alt Cables, the left top Post I was told it was the Ign. feed wires. Right side top Post Ign Mod. feed, and right lower Post starter Cable. I'm currently running a HEI and just need a power red/w stripe to power it, where should I pull it from ?

These are the current wires I have hanging
purple Long
Purple -has been cut to behind the carb
Brown
Black
Orange
Yellow
Blue
3 red wires
Red/white stripe large diameter
Red/white stripe small diameter

Please Help

If it's a 232 or 258 it will have the same bolt pattern as the AMC v8's

Hey guys-

I found an AMC 360 from a 1988 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. Will it fit in my 1976 Jeep CJ5?

Just want to make sure before I buy the engine!

Thanks guys.

79 cj5. is there any modification need when using a 2.5" lift with 3/4 shackle lift. i am thinking of the front end being tilted forward or anything to that effect with this application. a shackle reverse is being used in front as well.
