so i am getting ready to start the project. i am going to the Pull-A-Part junk yard withink a week or so and was wanting that my list of parts was what i needed. i know the 4.0 block, head, intake, (and everything that mounts on the front ::fan alty P/S A/c) ALL the wiring and computer(s) connected to the fuel injection. i wanted to make sure that there wasnt anything else form the junk yard that i need.....

By the way, at a pull-a-part junk yard a complete 6 cyl motor is $160 without a cre. so i want to make sure that i get everything i need while i am there the first time to save any money that i can....

The 5spd in the Cherokee will work as long as it is a 4wd AX15 and not a 2WD, as they aren't a transmission that you can convert back and fourth. Everything should be in the Cherokee, yes.

I almost did the pull a part thing, and actually did get my harness there. Only thing I don't like is you have no idea about internal condition of a motor you pull there.

yeah, i plan on doing a rebuild, otherwise i would be more cautious about it.

is there any years that i should not get, or just anything from 91-08?

My preference is a 91-98 motor, as that is the better flowing head with less restrictions. 99+ has the better intake, and if you see any of the later intakes snag them, they go for a premium on Ebay and can be adapted to the earlier head. 2000+ motors are the bad head casting that is prone to cracking.

sorry to completely bust you for knowledge but i was wondering if you had more information about the CPS and the VSS.

where on the bellhousing does the CPS mount. is that something that i could do myself? in order to get novak to do the work on it would i have to ship it to them.

and where does the VSS mount to, and how much are they?

also how much can a CPS be gotten for?

I wouldn't do the CPS yourself, either get the Hesco dampener or send it to Novak, just a little space is a lot of timing on those things. The VSS mounts where your speedo cable goes now. You can get the ones from Hesco to run your speedo and function as the VSS for like $160, or they came in 91 Wranglers.

The 259+4.0L head will be better at low-mid RPM and the 4.0L at high RPM. Both with stock camshaft.

No, unless you use the megasquirt ECM, but that's another story.

Anyway, why would one want to use this distributor at the first place??

cause its new.

i think i am leaning more towards using the 4.2 block.

i like the low end and i know that any real power problems will be solved by the fuel injection. i also have the 4.0 head that has been modified to work on the 258. so that would save more time and money right there.

my planned setup will be:

Fresh 258 block, stock (maybe a small cam)
Recent 4.0 Head and Headers
The Wiring System from 4.0 (including Computers and Ignition)
The hesco CPS kit
Intake
Various Sensors and stuff
the E2000 pump and accesories.
A/C for OBA

is there anything offhand you can think of that will make the not work...

If i put in a cam with some lift, will that throw off the fuel injection? or will it accomidate for it?

also would i have to swap to a 4.0 flywheel and bellcrank?

With that setup it's better using a larger injectors or adjustable fuel pressure regulator.

If you use the CPS relocation kit then you don't need the 4.0L flywheel unless you swapping the AX15 too.
Using an aftermarket cam might cause a bit of trouble installing the distributor but nothing serious..

Do not use ECM or harness from Grand Cherokee unless you have to, try looking for manual setup, it will be easier.
Start looking for a VSS..

Click on the JEEP link in my sig. for F.S.M'S.
