not trying to high jack your thread, but will one of these work on my 4.0l? what is the diameter of this thing? what are cjs running that have a 4.0l ?

I've put a motorcraft 2bbl on mine with a holley high intake filter.

If you can find one, AMC put 4-bbl carbs, and air cleaners, on some FSJs with 360s and 401s.

IIRC, the hole diameter is 5-1/8" for most 4-bbl carb air cleaners.

If you have a 4.0 with fuel injection, it will likely not work. These sit on the carb to filter the air going in to them. The 4.0 engines have a stock air cleaner that sits on top of a plastic box and moves air in to the throttle body.

I don't think I need all of the vacuum ports, my CJ has been nuttered and I am running a weber 32/36. If I need to modify something then I will.

Yeah, I just looked around the web and found the chrysler (made from 97 to 04) air box and long hose that travels over the valve cover to the passenger fender works. looks kinda funky though.

You never did say if you had manual or power brakes. The air cleaner assemblies are different for each application.

I converted my CJ-7 back in 1988 to power brakes and bought the correct air cleaner from the dealer with all parts associated with it including all mounts, upstream and downstream hoses and fittings for $115.00 new.

I now use the same air cleaner assembly on a 32/36 Weber I bought during a restore and had to buy the Weber adapter and raise the the air cleaner assembly by 1 inch.

power brakes. I picked up a used 258 from a coworker for $100. It is a 83 CJ7 with 93k miles that his dad purchased new. He said he may have the original air cleaner to go with it but his didn't have power brakes, what is the difference in the cleaners?

keith460, I think I can fab this 258 air cleaner to fit my 4.0l. it will look a lot better and have the accordian tube connected to the grill. do you see any reason this would not work.

I don't really have a need for it. How about 25.00 plus shipping? Let me dig around, may have the accordian tube somewhere to hook it to grille. As for the actual mount part, I fabbed my own. If I can find it, you can have it.

The difference between the manual and power brake cleaner is where it sat. Manual brakes it sat right on top of the carb. With power brakes there is no room so it was an offset model like I have.

OK, you are in luck. I found both pieces. The bracket is home made. I used nylon spacers under it and screws cut to length to raise it to the proper height when attached to the top of the valve cover. If you want to kick in a few bucks for my awesome fab skills that's cool. hahahahaha.
