No Sway bar mounting holes on front of CJ7 Frame
I bought an old CJ7 front sway bar complete with the frame rail brackets. There are no holes in the frame between the shock mount and the leaf spring shackles on the bottom of my frame that line up with the bottom of the frame bracket. The only holes I have are the 2 tiny bump stop holes and one hole just behind the leaf spring shackle. There is one hole in the center of the side of the frame rail that lines up with the single bolt hole for the bracket near the shock mounts, but still no bottom holes. How do I mount this thing? My jeep is a 1976 CJ7 and I don't believe it ever came with a sway bar. I put a 4 inch lift on it with the sway bar extensions and want to mount it to reduce the body sway when steering. Pictures and a short description of what to do would help. My only idea is to drill the bottom ones out and put nutserts in, but I need to know precisely where to mount it first.

Your sway bar mounting pic
that's the exact same bracket and bar I have, but I don't know where to mount it do to the lack of mounting holes on the bottom. Do you have a slightly wider pic that shows where the frame bracket is mounted in relation to the frame itself.

Phat's pic
Yours is just like my twin. Now I know that the front reinforcement was for a snow plow. LOL. Well, that pic helped a lot. I have the same setup as you. Heavy duty steering box bracket, J20 steering box, and flaming river steering shaft. So I'll either have to drill and install nutserts on the bottom, weld in studs, or weld in the bracket like you did. I'd like to not weld it just to keep it easier to remove in a pinch, but then again that looks like it would work good enough.

Yeah, my 76 didn't have swaybar mounts either. My new frame had them so I installed the swaybar and it's been nice with it on.

Thanks for all your posts
Thanks for all your posts. All of your pics and comments confirmed what I'd gathered from other posts and pics, that my frame just came without any swaybar bracket mounting holes. With your pics I should be able to mount them up in the right place and getting working in the next week or so.
Thanks again,
Hoffman

Yeah the snow plow reinforcement doesn't help much down here. Actually gets in they way more than anything.
The guy that re-welded my spring perchs threw the sway bar on there while he was at it. He had one lying around from a YJ. The frame mounts sit back further than they normally would because of the snow plow thing. He then had to heat and bend the sway bar in order to line everything up. Big improvement over stock.
I will post a current pic in the next day or so. I've replaced all the bushings and added zirc fittings to keep everything lubed up.

It didn't have a swaybar, but I grabbed one from a junkyard vehicle and lined it up, drilled the holes and bolted it on:

My 77 CJ-5 had the holes but did not have any nuts on the inside on the frame. I ended up welding it to the frame and it has worked fine.
