I have a "new to me" 1946 CJ2A more or less original. It was not running when I recieved it but engine turns over OK and all fluids are in decent shape, it was supposedly running in the past 6 months. It will crank and fire for a few seconds on starter fluid sprayed directly into the carb. It is not getting fuel to the fuel pump. I have replaced the fuel pump with a brand new original replacement and run a new, rubber fuel line from a gas can directly to the fuel pump intake to eliminate any issues with clogged fuel line, gas tank, etc. but still not getting any fuel into the fuel pump bowl.
Does anyone have any ideas on what else to check before moving to a more drastic tear down?
Is the new fuel pump actually pumping fuel? Break loose the fuel line at the carb and make certain it is pumping fuel up to the carb. Have a helper turn the engine over while you hold the fuel line in a clean metal container. Inside of 30 seconds or less the fuel pump should move almost a 2 cups of fuel into your can. If the pump passes that test, then look at the carb for a blockage, plugged passage, or varnish in the bowl. If you move the accelerator linkage you should see a stream of fuel shooting in the throat of the carb. If not, then possible places to look are: a stuck needle valve or bowel float assembly, accelerator pump diaphragm dried up and not working.
Bottom line... If the fuel pump works and the fuel filter is good, then the next place to look is the carb.

That's the problem, the fuel pump is not pumping anything through. There is no fuel in the fuel pump while / after cranking so nothing is getting to the carb. It's a brand new fuel pump and I'm running a new, rubber fuel line directly from a gas can so I know there's no obstruction of fuel before the pump.
I'm confident on the line in the fuel can, not so on whether the cam is engaging the fuel pump arm. That's one of the first things I thought of, but don't know how to check and confirm that it's moving the fuel pump arm. Does anyone know of a way to test that?
