New windshield frame - whats wrong?

I just bought a new windshield frame from Quadratec. ('84 CJ-7) I am having some real problems getting it to fit right.

1. The holes for the bracket that holds the frame to the dash are not drilled in the right spot. When the bracket is attached, the holes do not line up with the hole in the dash.

2. The linkage access holes on the inside bottom are not the same size as my old frame. (left one is much longer than the right one, which means the plastic plug won't fit)

3. The holes where the wipers come through the front are WAY too big.

4. There are no defrost vent holes.

5. The glass will not fit. We ruined a new seal trying to get it in.

6. There are threaded holes in the top corners as if to attach a sport bar like a Wrangler. (?????)

Questions: Is this typical? Has anyone here used the replacement steel frames from Q-tec? Did you have these problems?

Did they send me a windshield frame for a YJ? What gives?

I'll be calling customer service tomorrow morning. Just hoping to get some insight from ya'll here first.

That sounds like a YJ frame.

Yep. I just found some photos online and compared them. The frame they sent me is definately for a YJ!

The bad news is the new (wrong) frame has already been painted (as well as the rest of the Jeep). The painter is not going to do another one for free. Hopefully Quadratec will make this right. (fingers crossed)

That's why I check stuff as soon as it arrives and before I would even have time to *think* about installing it...mistakes happen. I doubt they're going to do anything for you on the paint and might even refuse to take it back since you had it painted...hopefully they'll be cool about it. Good luck.

I wouldn't be surprised if they refuse to accept it as a return with it being painted. I think you're also SOL on the paint job getting redone without paying for it again. Live and learn, and sell this one off to someone else who may need it if you can't return it.

Please let us know what the outcome is. I need a new windshield frame for my CJ-7. I would like to know what the quality of this part was/is and how they treated you on the return. Thanks!

Well, I worked something out with Q-tec today. They are sending me the correct windshield frame and refunding my money. Also told me to keep the YJ frame.

I guess that's pretty good considering that it is well above and beyond their official terms of business disclaimer. I must admit that they do have a very courteous and knowledgeable customer service staff. (too bad whoever picked my order ain't that bright)

It's still going to cost me about $250 to get the new one painted, so I'm far from happy, but I know if they really wanted to screw me they could have made it much worse.

Anyway...... If anyone is interested....... I have a brand new YJ windshield frame for sale. Freshly painted Adriatic Blue w/ clearcoat. Any takers?

See there you go. Now you can sell it for the price to paint the new one. I've had some dealings with 4 wheel parts where they shipped the wrong part and told me to keep the original. It's just good business to keep the customer happy.
