new retro CJ/JK package?

Howdy guys

I was kicking around this idea back when I still had my CJ7, and was looking at decal options. I started a POLL over in the wrangler section, but I'm also very intersted in what you my CJ friends all might think about it:

what say you? Homage, or sacrilege?

Lipstick on a pig.

Q: How do you know when you've parked your JK too close to the campfire?

A: When it melts.

I think a jeep with 4 doors just looks wrong, but I think a CJ style package could be interesting at the very least

I like it. A nod of respect perhaps? They really do need something. W/all the commercial van lettering companies out there you can do the tri-colors w/the old script. Or whatever you can dream up. People w/much better p-shop skills should REALLY chime in here!

Agreed, as my chopping skills admittedly suck

Sacrilege!
It's bad enough Chrysler exploits history and the Jeep vehicle. Why can't they come up with their own ideas. This would be no different than Isuzu making a Trooper that resembles a Jeep, except for Chrysler owning the trademark name.

I have been toying with the idea of turning my LJ into a retro styled scrambler with a newer mopar style. I know some of you may think this is sacrilege but I think it could be realy cool.

Or AMC making a CJ that resembles a Kaiser because they own the trademark name...

Or Kaiser making a CJ that resembles a Willys because they own the trademark name....

The difference being the Jeep was continuously made throughout the parent company changes, even naming the new company after the vehicle, but AMC ended production of that vehicle. Chrysler never produced a Jeep.

Bobs - that is cool looking. I'd buy that. I like the Xterra bars on top. But I'd call it the "ScramTerra".

J/K- and all in good fun. I can respect your opinion w/out agreeing or arguing. I also enjoy following along on your rebuild. I don't think you were a member here yet when I frequented the CJ section- I had an '83 CJ7

and a '73 CJ5

and a '68 Jeepster

and a '57 CJ5

I've loved and appreciated each of my Jeeps, along w/ their quirks, nuances, and 'improvments' each model had along the way. Perhaps that is why I'm nostalgic.

Nice work. Love that 73. I have seen the 83 and 73 before, maybe even in your build if you have a thread.

My problem isn't with the Wranglers, don't get me wrong. It's the whole chrysler exploiting history thing that bugs me. And of course the ignorance of the new generations that don't know any better, which chrysler likes. When AMC introduced the wrangler, it wasn't to bring the Jeep back to life after just ending it's life. It was to offer another vehicle to fill that niche. And while some Jeep parts were used, there were many differences. I had a Dodge charger and a Plymouth Torismo that were closer linked than a Jeep and a wrangler. Why couldn't chrysler let their vehicle stand on their own instead of trying so hard to link it to another vehicle with a 45 year history?... money! They could ride the coat tails of an American icon and eventually blur the line to the fact that they were two different vehicles. And when I say Jeep I mean a CJ, because that was it's given name. The two are interchangable, Jeep and CJ. Whereas they gave the YJ a name, Wrangler. AMC knew they were different horses and treated it as so. Chrysler never understood.

X2 on that '73. The color is outstanding ... do you happen to remember the paint code for that one ?

Dupont safety signal green (or very close to that) it was extremely bright, close to the new Gecko pearlcoat offered on the newer Jeeps (or Chryslers, if you'd prefer), but just a shade more green.

Thanks. I've had quite a few others as well. I've been fortunate in the Jeep world, but my biggest issue is I like them all so much, I have a hard time staying with any single one. I also enjoy the build-up and project side, but then I'm ready for the next one.

A few of my friends are convinced the government is involved, and a Jeep is just my programmed version of having a copy of "Catcher in the Rye" at all times...
