New to the Jeep World

I just bought my first Jeep. It is a 1977 CJ7 and everything is stock. It has the 304 and the T150 tranny. The motor might be blown but the guy doesn't know. I bought it for $400 so I think that it is a steal! I was just wondering if I should keep the 304 if it is blown and just rebuild it or swap in a Chevy 350? And does anyone have any suggestions on the T150, should I keep it? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I have a 77 jeep with a 350 in it, it orginally had a 304 so i know what you are going through. I am running a TH400 auto on the back of my engine, i hate manuals. I got the coversion kit for the 350 mounts from www.4wd.com happy jeeping

Compression test it and see... then when you know the deal figure the $ FIRST... rather than doing what i can SEE you are doing which is what i DID and still DO... which is dream... and imagine coolness and dream... then get the bad news AFTER wards... and its all too late.

Get your info from www.amazon.com - find a book called Jeep 4x4 Performance Handbook - By Jim Allen ... [anyone know where i can find him ??] then buy it... then buy a sub to JP magazine and Petersons 4x4... then call www.4wd.com and get a catalogue then goto www.quadratec.com and get things a bit cheaper... but less range... and lastly be ready for small bills and lots of them and big bills and lots of them.

Sounds like you got a steal alright... got any photos of your $400 Jiip... ?

Good luck ... may the force be with you.
