New To The Jeep Thing, A Few Questions
The 78 CJ7 I just bought is pretty much stock and I want to keep it that way.
However, the guy I bought it from said that it should have new spring shackles that will lengthen it slightly, because the suspension wants to shift back and forth when accelerating or hard braking. Does this sound right? If so, what are these called and who makes them? Thanks in advance.

The first thing I would check would be the U-bolts that hold the springs to the axles. i dont think shackles would control to front to rear movement.if you want to buy new shackles I wouldnt go more then 1/2 longer then stock. You can pick stock shackles up at 4wd.com,quadratec.com, most companies carry them and they are pretty inexpensive. But I would definetly check the U-bolts first cause if they are loose our broken then you will have a seriouse problem keeping the axles under it. Good luck on the fix and Welcome to the never ending world of CJ's enjoy the headaches and truimphs.

The guy you bought it from does not sound like he has a clue. I'd go through it and check/ change all the fluids, check the brakes, inspect/ replace the sparkplugs etc...
