New Jeep Project - HELP!

Okay...I started a while ago with a thread about a daily driver 4-banger and wanting bigger tires.

Things have changed.

I have an '84 CJ-7 with the stock 4-cyl. and stock axles.
I have access to a Freshly rebuilt 360 and Wagoneer 44s (with 3.73s).

My question is...
Since my knowledge is limited regarding these things, what do I do first? I want to drive it most of the summer and not have it out of comission for super long periods of time, so...
I kind of want to do things one weekend at a time.
Do I chop the axles and smack them under the Jeep now and wait to put the engine in?
Or do I drop in the engine and hope the axles hold up until I can get the new ones ready?

Thanks, guys.

dropthe 360 in and when you break the axles swap in the others at full width. choping axles are expensive.

Sounds like a good plan, but things almost always take longer then at first thought, i planned on swapping a 360 in in one week with zero help, ended up taking about 3 weeks

i've never swapped new axles in so im not sure how long it would take, but unless you have alot of help and run into no problems you cant swap in a 360 in one weekend, im just finishing up, you will need access to a hoist and a good place to do it....

good luck

Make sure your waggy front axle has the diff on the correct side. (same for the rear) Poison Spyder makes a kit to outboard your springs if you would rather not chop the axles. The kit will also reverse your shackles and give you about an inch of lift in the front. (you could use a lift shackle in the rear to level it out)

Well, I've got a hoist. And friends. I was thinking axles first, but I don't know. What is the exact process I will have to go through to chop them down to width?

Just wheel the pi*s out of it for the summer and build it over the winter or as things break. Better axles and bigger motor are great but if you want to get to the trail just go building always takes longer than expected.

Yeah, good plan. That's how I think I'll go about it. The dang thing is worthless in the winter anyway.

Thanks, guys.
