Ok, so new Jeep owner here, not my first Jeep, but the first one since I had a '73 CJ5 back in the summer of '78. Traded it on a '70 Camaro SS with a Corvette motor.... I was young and dumb...
Anyway, I always wanted to get myself another Jeep, but life always got in the way, and now that I've given up on street motorcycle riding due to all he distracted diving going on, I decided that a Jeep would be just what I needed. It's mostly for dirt/trail adventure due to I know where there are lots of Jeep trails etc, nothing real gnarly. So I looked at Wranglers, but whoa, I felt like I was in an SUV. Woulda felt weird with the doors off. I immediately knew I needed a real Jeep.
So here I am with new to me '85 CJ7. I found this Jeep after seeing it go through evilbay a few times and went and bought it directly, due o it was only a couple hours from me. It only has 34,xxx miles on it, for real. The PO tried to make it a Laredo, and didn't quite get there.
Sorry for the crappy pictures. An i phone is not a suitable camera. Here it is in the frozen tundra. It came with only a bikini top, so I won't be driving it till I get a soft top on it due to it's about 50 effing below here. It has a 258 with a 4 speed T 176. and the usual stock axles and TC. I was hoping the gear wasn't going to be the 2:73, but it sure enough is. Stock ride height and goofy tires and rims, and kinda cool grenade shifter knob. There's no rust at all on this due to it was babied and spent it's life in a heated garage. The good news is that the PO used to spray oil all over the underside for anticorrosion purposes. But, it's an oily mess. I'll take that over rust. You just don't find these around here so rust free.
So anyway, I'll be here asking a lot of questions. The first thing to go will be the gold push bar, and the tires. My first question, will I need a longer DS with a 2 and a half inch lift?
