I have already purchased a YJ for a donor bed. Weather or not I can bring myself to cut it up or not remains to be seen. I pick it up on Tomorrow, and will of course post some photos.

Here is Al's build over on pirate:

I really like the lines...
I like the look of it too Eric. Seems like there's allot of YJ tubs around so maybe that could ease the pain of cutting it up. Looking forward to seeing that tub.

I like those tires too. They really resemble the Interco TSLs I have. I think they look good on that rig.

Here are some pictures of my new donor YJ. It has been sitting in the desert since 2003 when there was an engine fire.

I can't find a spec of rust. Very tempted to get this one running, but we'll see how things play out.

I have most all the missing parts, as they were in the back of the tub. The guages were melted, so were taken out with the wiring and the carb.

Worked on the drive shafts this week end.
I had to lengthen the front CV shaft, so at the same time I necked it down to give more clearance at the cross member.

Ran true on the lathe, so will run it and see if it even needs balanced. This shaft will never see speeds over a crawl, so I'm ok with it.

I made a rear standard DS also, but it will be only used for a trail spare. I plan to purchase a Tom Woods D.C. shaft for every day use.

Was getting curious as to what the rig was going to look like with the tub on, so I hoisted it up. Sure is tall!

Hey, thanks Jim! When I built the shop 5 years ago, I remember thinking "man, this is so big! I'll never run out of space..."

I'm looking into expanding the width 20' more. Would love to have a lift!

Eric, you had any issues with the wildfires out there? I know it got to within 3 houses of my families place in Ft Davis before they got it under control but didnt hear much about Alpine getting hit.

I hear you on the bigger shop and lift. I was outside looking at mine today thinking of how I could afford to add on.

So far so good! All the fires are either to the North, West, or East of Alpine.
40 homes destroyed in Ft. Davis. You were lucky! I drove by the place were the fire starteded. An abandoned house. You know what that means...

Progress update

After installing the front drive shaft, I started putting the sheetmetal back together. I got to do the grill section twice since I found a transmission cooler in my parts pile. Seems I forgot I had that!

Pretty cool that I can lift the hard top on/off by myself...

Seems to be decent tire clearance with the 35's. I have a set of TJ flares I might put on.
