I know someone who built one into a pick-up and drives it all the time...street legal with plates. I don't know what he did to get it there, though. I bought one at auction to build and sold it off before I did anything, but I went to the DMV (Va.) to get a title. They were totally willing, but I was missing a signature on the paperwork from the goverment; so I didn't get the title.

Update

Here are some pictures as it sits in my shop.
The TF727 is leaking at the shfter rod seal. The rig is very hard to roll backwards, but easily forwards. Same when I jack up the wheels. I don't know what that means yet, any ideas? It is not brake related, perhaps inside the NP198.

I feel like you could get it titled and tagged as a custom build. Thats how hot rodders and custom bike builders do it.

ts a cj10a, it's nothing like a cj7. yes I understand, but you wanted it to be legal, you got to have a vin and title to be legal so quit fighting and listen. The only way you can get it legal is to get a title of a highway legal vehicle. and if you had read any 4wd magzine in the last ten years you will see the blue cj10 that street legal. other than that you have the same thing as a fork lift or farm tractor

Here are my options (using parts I already have, or can get)

1. 1965 CJ5 tub and front clip complete but in pretty bad shape rust wise, but free. No title!

2. put on a 1969 Scout 800 complete body, rust free. Has title!

3. Take the drivetrain off the CJ-10 and install into the 800.

4. Build a cage around the CJ10, and have a rockcrawler/farm tractor.

5. Put on a YJ tub I can get for $500. No Title!

I'm leaning towards number 2, but number 3 might be less work.
Also, since I'm possibly getting a second one complete, then I can use this one for spare parts.

If it is classified as a tractor, put one of the Slow Moving Vehicle reflective triangles on the back of it, and drive away!!

Thats what I was saying but someone got their panties in a bunch. I dont think you would get any resistance with a Cj7 vin.

Do you have the body for it? I was under the impression that it was complete.

The one pictured is the 1st one. It came as pictured.

The 2nd one coming is complete. I originally just bought the 1st one for the engine, but the guy threw in the rest. Pretty cool huh?

On another note, I just picked up a cj5 tub complete with fenders, hood, grill etc... It was free, so no big deal if it doesn't work out.
It is still on my trailer, but i hope to hoist it up and roll the CJ10 under it just to see what happens.

I will have an 800 scout tub off the chasis in a couple of weeks, so I can trial; fit it also. Obviously I'd much rather the CJ5 tub end up fitting, since it would stay AMC that way, but on this one, I'll take what I can get.

If it looks like it just isn't going to work out, I'll pull the drivetrain for a future diesel swap, and scrap the rest.

Hi Eric,
I had the same engine built in a Cherokee Chief I bought in Belgium. Since it was a commercial vehicle in Belgium, the former owner had no problem swapping the engine; no paperwork needed over there. When I imported it to the Netherlands I got a title with the diesel engine as it was imported within Europe. So luckily now I have a legal registration with a diesel on a cherokee wheelbase. In Holland the chassis, and not the tub, go with the paperwork so now i am going to put on a lengthened cj tub in order to built a cj8 overlander.
Not that this is helping you, but just some info how we handle vehicle registration problems over here.
regards, Gerrie
