Eric, that is OUTSTANDING! What a cool ride. I want one. Thinking about your bed area... I would hack a pickup bed (stepside Ranger, S10, etc) before the Jeep tub. I don't think the Jeep tub is gonna grace the lines of what you have built so far. I can't explain that... just a feeling.

Skerr,
I'm thinking of something along these lines. Without the exo-cage though.

Gotcha... that looks very good. I was thinking micro-stepside kind of look. I think you have a good plan!

I just got to say, I still love the looks of a solid aluminum wheel

I started rebuilding the doors, and found that the locking rod is missing from both sides. At first I figured that the PO took them off so no one could lock the vehicle without a key.

That makes perfect sense for a flight line tow.

Then I looked through my parts manual, and when I compared it to the CJ7 manual, I see the rod is not listed for the CJ10. Everything else is there, but the rod.

So it seems these shipped from the factory that way. Now I need (want) two rods. Anybody have some extras?

I also need the roller/grommet that mounts on the arm of the regulator. It slides in the track on the bottom of the window glass.
I don't know if Jeep still sells those or not. Anybody?

Eric you've sure got things coming together great. I really like the looks of it. I like the YJ bed too. Come to think of it I like everything about it!!

Are the rods something you could make if you had to?

One of the rods was missing in my CJ's hard doors, but I was able to make one of of some round stock from the hardware store. I had the other to mirror it while I was bending, but are the pics in the manual good enough to get you close?

If I end up makeing them, what about the keepers used to hold them in place?

Is therea source for them?

When you say "keepers", what are you talking about? I'm thinking you mean the plastic pieces that the bent ends of the rod go into to hold them to the piece? If so, I couldn't find the ones I needed for my doors either, but I was able to use some drywall anchors. I'm talking about the round ones you push into drywall to hold a screw. I found a bunch of different sizes, and was able to use those. The hole you are talking about maybe to large though.
Good luck

Yes, those plastic or maybe metal things that keep the rod in place.

Suppose I could drill it and use a cotter pin.

Thats what I thought you were talking about. Drywall anchors only go up to a certain size, but they worked well in my doors. They pushed right in and the back has "nubs" on them so they pretty much lock in place.

Update:

Have to have E-brake for inspection purposes, so no choice but to fab something up. I ordered new cable to fit a Grand Wagoneer since they are the longest ones I could find. I still had to remove the frame bracket from the YJ and weld it onto the CJ10 frame. I fab'd a rod to lengthen the cable coming from the pedal so it would reach the new cable.

In the end, I should have just removed everything from the YJ, and started from scratch, but hindsite is 20/20.

I now have working e-brakes.

Next thing is to get my VIN inspection in a few days. If all goes well with that, then I will cut up the YJ tub and start on the bed.

Ok, I couldn't stand it anymore, so I started on the bed...

Got the YJ cut in half, the washed her up to see what I had, and removed the rollbar.

I have decided on cutting the bedd where the drop off begins, then turn the small area left over into a storage bin.

I was able to get all the roll bar torx bolts off no problems. Thanks to a good dry climate!

Thanks Jim! Actually that cut was a rough first cut. I left it long until I could get it inside do do some closer measuring. I used a skillsaw with a metal blade. Just cut the tub from the bottom side as if it was plywood.

Since there was carpeting in the YJ, the paint looks like new also. After taking a break, I got back on the tub for the final cut, but decided I should buy a new blade for the saw. Went to the hardware store, but got there too late. So first thing in the AM, I will get one, and finish the cutting.

Now the tub is light enough I can pick it up and move it around at least.
I should have it sitting ontop of the frame by noon.
