That looks to be the correct switch that you purchased and your transmission case looks to be a Borg/Warner T4 too.

Borg/Warner T4

Borg/Warner T5 (currently rebuilding)

Is part of the old switch broken off and stuck in the hole?

Please explain exactly how it does not fit.

My photo from a few posts earlier shows where the switch should go. There are no threads that would allow my new switch to install (or even fit for that matter). It does look like there is a nut that would unscrew, so perhaps the old switch was broken in half and still partially remains on the trans? I am a bit hesitant to remove it without knowing for sure that it's the right thing - dont want to remove a bolt that holds the whole trans together or something.....

No thanks, it's hard enough to find the time to do mine right now. Work travel has sure taken time away for rebuilding the T5. At this rate, Spring will have come and gone before I get to install it.

I wish I could tell you what the thread size is for the Reverse Switch is, but I'm not at home where I have the one on the bench that I took out of the T5. More than likely it is a metric thread around 14 or 16mm.

I understand..... One day soon I'll try to remove whatever is shown in my pic. Hopefully, it will expose the original switch (or half of it), and allow me to screw in my new one......

Please let me know if I'm missing something: last night I was installing my new running lights and figured I'd test the back up lights. The switch still isn't installed, but I assumed that I could just short the red and white wires (associated with the back up switch plug) and get something to happen. Nothing. Am I missing something?

Yes, that should work. Best to check BU fuse.

Sorry for the deleted posts. I've got a nice update.

CJJeep, you ended up being correct. My old switch was snapped in half, which made it look like it wasn't the switch at all. I took a wrench to it and removed it, here it is next to the new switch:

image-3092970255.jpg

image-3311102442.jpg

Once that was done, I was tested the switch by putting my meter on the leads (continuity) while in neutral - no contact. Put it in reverse and I had my closure. Switch is in and working!

Next I was able to confirm that my back up lights were functioning by touching the red wire (which should have 12 volts referenced to ground) to the white wire. With that contact made, my reverse lights lit up.

*John, I think they may have been working all along. The problem is that with my ORO LED tail lights, there is hardly any white light when in reverse. When I was testing from inside the engine bay, I was expecting to see the lights turn totally white - but with these, the red stays on and you get like 5 little LEDs to show white. Better than nothing!

While I was at it, I tested the 4WD indicator (orange wire). Shorted it to ground and the dash light indicator came on brightly!

Last step is to solder on the female end of the harness connector to made my plug sides to my harness sides and life is good!

Thanks, as always, for the input guys!
