need help with t176

like the title says need some help with a t176

problems

It grinds a little when not in gear and not in on clutch but not bad at all almost sounds more like a throw out baring. Also grinds all the time and really bad in 1, 2, 3 but not in forth. So been searching and sounds like the counter shaft. Trying the cheapest first i changed gear oil just to see if it would help some. But now since i did that it pops out of 4th.

Were im at now

Pulled the top plate just to look in there and see is anything was damaged bad like gears or any of the synchronizer stuff for 4th nope all good but did find that the front baring is missing half the balls in it. Which is letting the shaft move around which i am asooming is my problem. All the gears look good so i think a master rebuild and a shifter repair kit should get me back going

dose this sound like im going in the right direction

Hopefully he probably just lost the spacers between the balls and the balls are all collecting together.

Same thing with mine. I replaced the front bearing with one from NAPA, and bought a small parts kit. Rebuilt it using the manual floating around on this site, and it is good to go. Tough little trannys.

got the trans pulled out today and all the balls were together and just lost the spacers between the balls and the balls are all collecting together. No gears were messed up besides the reverse sliding gear which ant that bad and was missing a sycro spring on 4th. Which is why i think it was poping out of 4th. So ordered a master rebuild kit with sycro blocking rings and a 2 springs and a 3 4 slider. So i think i should be all set when it all comes in.

Good, you're half way done.

Get a good, and i mean a good transmission snap ring pliers, and go to town.

Order one now when you are waiting for parts.
