Need Help with MY Jeep Project

Ok here is the Story and i am sure you have heard it a million times. Any Personal Help is needed if you live nearby-- I am from Robersonville,NC.

I bought a 1983 Jeep CJ7 with a good Soft Top and Soft top doors. The engine had 65,000 miles on it and the jeep was running fine in fact i drove it from MYrtle Beach, SC. to where i live in Robersonville,NC. approx. 250-300 miles. I bought this last year and when i got it home i totally dismantled the Jeep. I took seats out and removed tub and Quarter panels. Quarter panels are reusable but the tub was completely rusted.
I waited and waited and finally found a 1989 yj tub off Ebay that had duraliner in the bottom of the tub and the tub seemed to be in real good shape so i bought it with hopes to put it on my CJ Chassis and use the CJ Engine. I totally striped the CJ Chassis from rust with a sand blaster and a pressure washer and i have painted by hand a prime coat of industrial paint all over the chassis before i Spray undercoat.

Over the past year i have bought numerous parts such as chrome parts and a 1 inch body lift with hardware to be able to put the yj Tub on the CJ Chassis. Is the conversion easy i read somewhere that two of the chassis mounts need to be moved up 10 cm but my question is do i have to mount the tub utilizing all mount holes or can i skip and not use two holes.

Also if anyone has done this conversion is there any insight i can get from you.

Is it worth me to try and do this Rebuild or should i sell it to someone who wants to do it more than i. I am not even sure if my soft top will fit the yj tub and i also bought a set of tj tires and rims with hopes they will fit the CJ Chassis.

Anyhelp would be gracious Thanks, Jon

....you might get more replies if you re-read what you just wrote and put in some line breaks.

...my '70 cj5 tub was held on by a piece of wood and one bolt.... so you dont need much

..of course, i am fixing that in my rebuild

I was among the first handful of folks to start swapping YJ tubs on 9-10 years ago...it's fairly easy (I'm a computer geek, not a mechanic if that helps bolster your confidence in doing it yourself). There's info on the swap on my web page...link is below in my sig. There's 2 mounts on each side that need to be address...the two under the rockers just in front of the rear wheels, and the two on the rear crossmember.

BTW: You might want to edit your post to remove your phone number. Not a good idea to post your phone number on a public internet forum.

I would remove that number also. As far as the mounts, I also did this swap, and it is really easier than you think. Get a 5/8" square nut to slide in the track in the underbody in front of the rear wheel well. The frame mount hole lines up right there. No need to remove the frame part and reinstall. Also, this is right under the rollbar behind the front seats. In my opinion, just a little stronger in case of the dreaded roll over.
As jeepskate states, there is alot of information on these swaps. Just get out there and do it.

I dont see a track to put the square bolt can you elaborate a bit more i found a website that said the mount needed to be moved forward 10 cm so that isnt all that far but it can be time consuming especially when i dont have a welder.

FYI, early tubs don't have a hole in the channel at that spot so you'd have to drill one. Note that I did both of my tub swaps slightly differently.

Here's a slideshow from the last one I helped out on:
http://www.selil.com/Jeep_CJ_Wrench_Fest/default.htm

We basically had it done in a day...the owner was driving it the next morning. The owner had pretty much everything on hand when we started, 1 guy welded (frame needed some minor repairs), 2 guys were muscle, I was the foreman, and the owner was the gopher.

It's there...it's a body channel (and you put in a nut, not a bolt), same channel all of the factory YJ mounts are in inboard of the rocker panels. It'll be plainly obvious once you set the tub on the frame.

The 'track' is a support channell welded to the bottom of the tub. Look where the body mount bolts go into the tub, and you'll see what I mean. I actually did this mount last, with the tub on the frame. Simply drilled the hole in the channell using the frame mount as a guide.
