Need Help Identifying This Engine

Can anyone tell me, by looking at the picture of the engine, what type of engine it is (258, etc)? Thanks!

Can you tell, by looking at the picture, that it is a 258 i6?

I can tell that it's an I6. You can't visually tell a 258 from the other AMC inline sixes from that view though.

That year the 258 was the only available I6, which is why I added the condition about it being the original engine in my statement.

The Jeep in the ad appears to be a nicely restored Laredo. There's nothing in the picture that would indicate the engine is not the original 258, as stated in the ad, but checking the casting numbers would confirm.

If its the original engine, it's probably getting a little tired at 129K miles, especially since it's been pushing less than desirable 2:73 gears with larger than stock tires.

Overall, I think the price is about right, if the engine is still good. I'd demand a compression test before I bought it at that price.
