need advice

so I bought this cj and was told that it has a detriot locker and being the newb I am I thought it was true till today when I saw that my rear end is leaking so I pulled the cover and I guess it got water in it and is also welded I have no idea what to do cant afford to have new one put in and one of the welds is broken already

That's called a Lincoln Locker. The good news is that it doesn't appear as if they welded anything to the carrier, just the spiders.
Option A.... put out a listing for some spider gears. People remove them to drop in lunch box lockers. May find a set laying around for the cost of shipping (hopefully).
Option B... drop in a lunch box locker. Lock-Right or such that replaces the spider gears.
Option C... full locker, such as a Detroit.

I have front spider gears laying in the garage I would give you, but unfortunately, that doesn't do you any good.

Well how hard is it to put in say a Detroit locker what tool would I need and is it super hard to do my dad has rebuilt motors granny's and built a ten second dag car so he's pretty good do you think we could do it at home if like a full locker

The differential housing with be stamped with the original ratio just to right of the box shown in red below.

As far as what's actually in there, you might have to count the teeth.

Ok so can any one yell me the difficulty of replacing the spider gears and installing a locker

The lunchbox type locker is a lot easier, a lot cheaper, but not as strong as a full locker. I installed one in my front axle. It just replaces the spider gears, no gear setup is required afterwards.
A full locker has a new carrier and will require the knowledge and tools to set up gears.
But like I said, it is a much stronger locker. Your driving style, tire size, and wheeling habits will factor in to your choice.

Well I'll have 35s soon and I am a big of a lead foot in many ways I think I'm gonna need the full locker

Ok so for now is it safe to drive welded and can I reeled the broken weld any good tips on doing so

That's a Dana 44 and they don't have the stamp that the AMC 20 has.

The tooth count of the ring and pinion is stamped on the outside circumference of the ring gear. Do the math and the ratio is known.

Every question about how to install lockers, etc can be found on the web and this site specifically if you look.

I say fix the leaking water and run it the way it is. When you put 35s on it and add a lead foot that D44 isn't going to last. Add the detroit to your replacement axle.

Ok ill just use the welded till I can afford a locker an so will it hurt anything to reeled the broken weld and it is safe to drive on the road right and also a friend told me that if you have a locker in the front it won't steer well even when the hubs are disconnected is that true?

Your friend is incorrect. With the hubs unlocked the wheels/tires/wheelbearing hubs are no longer connected to any of the rest of the drivetrain.

Ya that's why I figured so why will know one tell me if its a good idea to reweld the weld that broken?
