Mystery Hole in 258 Block?

Anyone, what is this hole on 258 block above the starter?

My guess would be an alignment hole used during the machining process of the block but that's just a guess.

I would agree. I used it to lift my engine once, lol.

Yeah I believe it was used in the factory as a way to hold the block/align it. I believe my block has one on the other side as well.
