Mysterious button by the clutch.

So, i bought a cj7 with some electrical problems. So the other day I was trying to find the problem and I came across a what seems to be an aftermarket button. It is metal and when you push it down it makes a click sound it is located near the clutch. I tried to follow the wire and it just goes behind the fuse box. Any ideas what this is and what it is supposed to do? thanks

I Attached a picture.

I'm completely guessing but I would say its a foot switch for your High Beams.

**edit damn way behind everyone else with the answer.

No. It doesn't have anything to do with those systems..... only the headlights.

So when did foot dimmers go out of style? I think my parents' '69 galaxy 500 had a foot dimmer and my 74 celica did not. I don't remember driving a car made between 70 and 73.

Off topic bit sort of on?

Do these go bad. I took in a lot of water during a rain storm. My headlights dont work at all now. Could the switched be corroded. I do live in the rust belt.

Yes they do go bad and you get from no lights to everything in between. Just did mine in last month. For about $3.99 your all fixed up.

sometimes just check to make sure it's plugged in all the way, if not it may only let one set of beams work.

dont miss and actually kick it sideways somehow cause I did that and I went to ZERO lights at night on my way home in the country. It was a LONG 4 miles in the dark. But me and the ol girl made it! I pulled the switch apart and it was broke on the inside. I just pulled one out of our old camper

I don't recommend the cheap one, they only last me about a year. Most parts places can source out the $15.00 one which is far better.
