My newbie is showing (Fuel line questions)

Greetings all, had a few questions about how the fuel delivery system in my CJ7 works. I have never done any work on the engine or fuel delivery of a car before. I've messed with lots of other parts, just not the "guts" of the engine itself.

From my reading, there are three lines for a fuel tank. Fuel line, return line, vapor line.

Fuel line is where the fuel is pumped out of the tank from. It goes to the fuel pump.

Return line, runs from the fuel pump to the fuel tank. This is necessary to keep fuel from atomizing in the fuel line (from getting too hot) and causing vapor lock.

Vapor line, runs from the top of the fuel tank, through a charcoal canister and then on to the engine to be burned. This is to prevent evaporation pollution.

Do I have all of that right? I've done plenty of google searches and have found partial answers on lots of different sites, I just want to make sure I'm putting it all together correctly.

Thanks!!!

Return line runs from the fuel filter to fuel tank. There should be a 1 inlet/ 2 outlet fuel filter on your jeep next to the carb. The smaller line is the return.

Yeah. When I bought it (about a month ago), a friend of mine who's a mechanic--mostly on classics from the 50's-70's--said that the fuel line was starting to weep and it should be replaced. I know the tank was replaced by the PO, but I don't think anything else was.

Ah, you're right. Now that I think about it I remember the three lines on the fuel filter. Lots to learn I'm afraid. :-D But then, that's why I got this thing.
