Ok, so I found a free 74' Waggy front axle (Dana 44).
Slight problem. It has drum brakes. I guess disc brakes where an option back then.
Do I have to change the complete outer knockles assemble with a Ford F150 set-up or can I keep the stock outer knockles and just change the hub, rotor and caliber w/bracket?

Just guessing but the knuckle should work with GM brake stuff bolted on. This is the way the Dana 30s (where I got my conversion parts) are and everything is pretty much interchangable. I have a 78 Wagoneer axle I am putting under mine this winter and the calipers, caliper mounts, ect. are the same as I dug up on my Dana 30 disk conversion. I got some F150 hubs so the bolt pattern would match. Ford spindles, knuckles, caliper mounts & calipers are not the same as the GM and Wagoneer stuff. The spindles are five bolt, not six like everything else and the calipers mount up differently. So you should just be able to swap the drum backing plates for GM caliper mounts and go from there.

Is it open or closed knuckle? If it's closed knuckle, it's '73 or older. I haven't seen a '74 with open knuckles and drum brakes. But...we are talking about AMC...anything's possible.

John N,
It's kind of odd. The vehicle tag say's 74' It's and open knockle with drum brakes. I read on some Waggy web site that front disc where an option until 1976.
