My Dash gauges don't work

Hi guys,
So I'm nearing the end of a CJ-7 project. My issue is that after replacing my wiring harness with a painless one my fuel, temp, oil, pressure and volt gauges don't work. Seems like this issue comes up a lot based on what I've read. I swapped out the oil pressure for a mechanical one so that is fine but the rest still don't work. I've read through some other threads and tried a few things without luck. Before i go and spend the money on a new instrument gauge I figured I would ask for help. Ideas? I don't have a multimeter fyi.

How do you get along without a multimeter? Or even a simple 12v circuit tester? Go get one!!! Why would you go buy a whole new instrument gauge without even confirming you have voltage to the leads?

Btw- even harbor freight has a free coupon for a multimeter.

He is right, you need some test gear.

A multimeter has its uses but a $5 12V test bulb with long leads is ideal for tracking down voltage on a CJ. You can hook on eend up to the battery negative and probe with the other end.

I would start at the fuse box. Test every input and output on each fuse. They sometimes blow but look OK.

Once you have voltage established you can go looking for voltage down the line to the gauges.

Exactly. Without a mutlimeter or at least a test light, all we are doing is guessing as much as you are. Without some sort of test equipment we can't help you to know whether or not you would need to buy a new instrument gauge or not as we (and you) can't tell if it is a gauge issue or a wiring issue, or something else.

I'm currently trying to track down some electrical issues on my CJ5 and couldn't even start without at least a test light.

Get a multimeter. You'll be amazed at how often you use it, and how many things you can do with it.
